Crossroads Quilt Block
Uses 2 fabrics resulting in 6 inch (9 inch, 12 inch) quilt blocks looking like a checkerboard pattern on the diagonal. Cut from Fabric 1 – 4 squares 2 5/8 inches (3 ¾ inches, 4 ¾ inches) Fabric 2 – 1 squares 2 5/8 inches (3 ¾ inches, 4 ¾ inches) 2 squares 2 ½ inches (3 ¾ inches, 4 inches) then cut squares diagonally, resulting in 4 triangles
1 square 4 ¼ inches (6 ¼ inches, 7 ¼ inches) then cut squares diagonally twice (X) resulting in 4 triangles Line up one fabric 2 square and 2 of the larger triangles of fabric 1. Put the fabric 2 in the middle with the fabric 2 triangles on either side and the bottom edge lined up.
Sew 2 of these rows. Press seams toward the darker fabric.
Next add the smaller triangle to cap the rows we just sewed.
Fold the triangle in half and pinch it (finger press). This will leave a crease.
Take the row we sewed and fold it in half and finger press it in the middle.
Match up the two creases so the two edges are centered.
Sew them together. Repeat of that you have two of these rows. For the center row of squares, place the fabric 2 square in the center and sew a fabric 2 square on either side.
Add the small triangle caps on to either end.
Trim the rows for straight edges. Line up the three rows so that the corners match. Sew together.
Trim the block so that there is ¼ inch seam allowance.
