Message Hypocrite ___________________________________________
Today’s Message am The word hypocrite is a transliteration of a Greek word that meant actor.10:00 Before there were sound amplification systems and spotlights, actors had to emphasize their roles to be able to communicate to the audience. Actors would project their voices and their actions so that the audience could hear and see. It was 10:00 am important. If an actor was a hypocrite, he excelled at his profession—playing up the role (over the top) so that the audience could follow. In chapter 6 Jesus cautions against acting for attention sake. But he doesn’t change his challenge for us to love him with all our heart, strength and mind.
Council Meeting The church council will meet this Thursday, February 9 at 7:00 pm.
Live Justly! The next meeting of the Live Justly small group will be next Sunday, February 12 at Kent and Lorna Sprik's home, at 5:30pm. It is not too late to join in with this group if you would like. We have been having a wonderful time digging into God's Word and discussing issues of justice, charity, and advocacy. Talk to Mike VanMilligen or Lynn Gutzwiller if you are interested.
Lent This year Easter is on April 16. The season of preparation, called Lent, begins 40 days before that, on Wednesday, March 1. This day is called Ash Wednesday. Traditionally Christian churches had a worship service to begin the season of Lent. The pastor would mark the foreheads of worshippers with a cross of ash. The ash would come from the burning of the palm branches from the previous year. I have saved the palm branches from last year and Council has approved a worship service to begin the season of Lent. It will be a simple service of readings and songs helping us to focus on our great sin and our great need for a savior. We invite you to mark your calendars and join us for this special worship service. More details to follow.
Green Team News-Substitute Reusable Items for Consumables Invest in rechargeable batteries and a battery charger. You can run almost anything, from flashlights to digital cameras, with rechargeable batteries. In the long run it is cheaper and better for the environment. Are you still collecting bags every time you shop? STOP! Invest in a set of reusable shopping bags. They hold more, they make carrying heavy loads much easier, they last seemingly forever, and they prevent litter. Use cloth napkins. Buy a large supply of inexpensive cotton napkins to use every day, the initial cost will be quickly offset by your reduced need to buy disposable paper substitutes.
