PS 34 Eco-Schools:

News and Updates by Tina Wong PS34’s Eco-Fashion Project is in Full Swing! On Monday, February 27, we held our second workshop helping to support those who are participating in PS34’s Eco-Fashion Show (scheduled for Thursday, April 27.) For this session, we discussed the use of unconventional materials and construction methods to create an upcycled garment or costume. We also had a guest speaker - Bunny Yan, CEO of the Squirrelz - a designer driven free material sharing app for iOS where you can easily find free fabrics near you, or post your own unused design materials for others. By using items that may otherwise be thrown away, we are helping to divert waste from our landfills! Check out her site: thesquirrelz.com

Eco-Leader Day during School Spirit Week In addition to all the great inclassroom Green lessons and activities, students from various grades and classes helped construct a 2’ x 4’ mural of PS 34’s owl mascot made from all the bottle caps YOU donated! The mural is still being finalized but when completed will be located on the main floor near the EcoSchool’s bulletin board; Be sure to stop by and check it out. Thank you to Green Team Parent, Jenny Carrow for designing and printing the mural so that we can easily lay out the bottle caps. Stay tuned for more bottle cap mural projects to in April – keep saving them.

Upcoming Eco-Events:

For our culminating project, students built dioramas, created animations, wrote poems, made PSA drawings and one group even sang a song! All projects reflected on “water is a precious resource” and why we must protect it! To hear Delilah, Victoria and Sophia’s song, visit: https://vimeo.com/206240157 All projects were submitted to the 2017 Water Resource Art & Poetry Contest sponsored by the DEP. Good luck to our kids!
