PS 34 Eco-Schools:
News and Updates An Eco-Family Field Trip to Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant by Madison Davis-Brown, 5th Grade
On Monday, January 15, 2018, Ms. Wong (our Sustainability Coach) took PS34 families to Newtown Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant. Latoya, the representative from Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) met the group as they arrived and showed them a small scale model of NYC apartments to understand what watershed looks like in the city. Then families watched a presentation to learn more about where our water comes from… upstate. Did you know our water travels to us by GRAVITY and it takes three months to get from Croton reservoir to our tap?

Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Club by Tina Wong
Imogen Sheenan, Ixchel HeldVillasenor and Madison DavisBrown in the 5th Grade are the first few to be a part of the NEW Young Reporters for the Environment (YRE) Club. They will be assigned to capture PS34’s Eco-stories and write articles for various publication. Look out for their articles! 2nd Annual Eco-Fashion Show by Tina Wong
Afterwards, families tour the plant and saw testing stations and air pumps and a secret control room. Finally, the families went outside and saw the Digester eggs...whoa. Overall, it was beautiful and fun day!

Monday, February 26, 2:45-3:45pm, Room 102 Eco-Fashion Show Mtg #2, At this [optional] meeting, families who signed up for the fashion show can learn about creative ways to use materials. Guest speaker to be announced via Class Dojo closer to date. 2nd half of meeting will be reserved for hand-on workshop.
