[email protected] Murfreesboro Soccer Club Launches TOPSoccer, A Free Soccer Program for Area Children and Youth with Special Needs Murfreesboro, TN --- Murfreesboro Soccer Club (MSC) is introducing a new, free soccer program for Murfreesboro-area children and youth with special needs, following a pilot program in Fall 2016. TOPSoccer, (The Outreach Program for Soccer), is enrolling now for the Spring 2017 season, which begins in March. The program was developed by US Youth Soccer and currently is available in eight soccer clubs in Tennessee. In Fall 2016, MSC launched a pilot season of the program and enrolled 25 children and youth. “The fall pilot couldn’t have gone better,” said Bryan Kleparek, President of Murfreesboro Soccer Club. “Honestly, this is one of the best and most engaging things we’ve ever done as a club. Without exception, our volunteer coaches, buddy coaches and volunteers enjoyed this program so much. Now, we’re ready to expand the program more widely for Spring 2017 to 50 players. TOPSoccer brings the opportunity to learn about and play soccer to any young person with special needs.” An informational parent meeting is Tuesday, February 28, at 6 p.m. at Richard Siegel Soccer Park in the Meeting Room. Please plan to come to that meeting if you’d like additional information or have questions. You can also contact Tre Arhagba, TOPSoccer Coordinator, at
[email protected] for additional information. If you need assistance in completing your registration, contact Sharon Barnett, MSC Administrator, at
[email protected] or at 615.203.6603. Parents can enroll their children now at murfreesborosoccer.com, click on TOPSoccer Program. The Spring 2017 will consist of six sessions, each beginning at 5:30 p.m. at Richard Siegel Soccer Park, on the following Fridays: 3.17; 3.24; 4.7; 4.21; 4.28; 5.7. The Spring 2017 season is limited to 50 players ages 5 through 12. There is no registration fee; the program is free. Each player will need to provide his or her own shin guards, black shorts and either soccer cleats or tennis shoes. MSC will provide players with a jersey and soccer socks. more Eligible players must be born between 2004 and 2011 to participate; organizers want to expand the age groups as the program grows. Registration will be open until Saturday,
February 25, or until the program is full. At the end of the season, medals will be awarded to all participants. TOPSoccer Sponsors include Smile Orthodontics/Dr. Anthony Togrye, Special Kids, Kermit Davis and Parker, Toy and Associates. The stimulus to bring the program to Murfreesboro now came from a desire to have a community outreach program within Murfreesboro Soccer. A committee of volunteers has been working for months on the program’s launch. “These very committed volunteers are passionate about TOPSoccer,” Kleparek added. “They brought the idea to the MSC Board, and we unanimously agreed that this will be a real plus for our community and for MSC.” TOPSoccer is a community-based soccer training and team placement program for young athletes with special needs. TOPSoccer was formed to carry out the US Youth Soccer mission statement, which is, in part, "to foster the physical, mental and emotional growth and development of America's youth through the sport of soccer at all levels of age and competition." There are thousands of children throughout the country with special needs who need, and can be provided with, the opportunity to play soccer through the TOPSoccer program. “We know that right here in Murfreesboro, there are many young people who may not have had a chance to experience soccer yet. TOPSoccer will change all of that,” Kleparek said. About Murfreesboro Soccer Club: The focus of the Murfreesboro Soccer Club (MSC), in existence as a non-profit organization since 1977, is the development of each individual player. MSC maximizes the development of the individual through programming that challenges each player, a coaching staff that adheres to the highest standards. MSC is resolute in dedicating its time and resources to the technical, tactical, physical and psychological aspects of playing soccer. MSC offers two primary programs: Recreational (ages 4 through 18), focusing on helping players learn the game of soccer in a fun and stimulating environment to be the best soccer players they can be; and Select (ages 8 through 18), focusing on helping players master higher level technical skills and fundamentals with a rigorous fall and spring schedule. Our beliefs: The pursuit of excellence in the areas of academics and soccer helps develop maturity and self-confidence in young people. The experiences a player has with MSC will be beneficial throughout his or her lifetime. Our approach and commitment the soccer community: The MSC staff and volunteers work hard to develop each and every player to his or her highest potential. This means that as players grow and learn new skills, they will have different opportunities to practice together, and play in games and tournaments. MSC constantly assesses each player’s skill levels and adjusts each player’s opportunities in an engaging, supportive, instructive environment. #####
