North Royalton Athletic Boosters January 4, 2016 Meeting Minutes
Finance Committee - Attendance: Bo Kuntz, Ben Morgan, Greg Robinson, Paul Twarog, Carey Marousek, Jeff Evanko Discussion was held regarding the upcoming uniform orders. Paul provided the group with a spreadsheet of each sport and the order history. Six teams will be eligible for uniforms for the 2016-17 school year. Bo encourages coaches to evaluate the condition of the uniforms prior to submitting a request. Going forward, coaches will be required to obtain three competitive bids. Bo reported the Holiday Tournament was a success. He will provide Jeff with a listing of the sponsors for recognition on the web site. All Executive Board members agree to sit on the scholarship selection committee. General Meeting – Attendance on file. The meeting was called to order at 7:03 p.m. by President Ben Morgan. 1. Old Business: a. Ben Morgan reiterated that several NRAB Trustee positions will be open for the upcoming school year. Several members have indicated interest in running; however anyone else with interest is encouraged to contact Ben. One Car Raffle trustee is available; Kelly Tarnowski volunteered for Gold Card and is in need of another trustee; two Night at the Races positions are available; Maria Rowlett volunteered for Purple and Gold; Paul Twarog is interested in Vice President; and Greg Robinson volunteered for Treasurer. 2. Athletic Director’s Report – a. Bo Kuntz introduced Joe Vadini, NRMS Wrestling coach. Coach Vadini thanked the Boosters for the annual donation to the MS Wrestling Tournament. The tournament was held in December, and they do not have a final accounting of the proceeds, but in the past have raised $2-3,000 for MS uniforms and equipment. He shared a sample of the shirt purchased for the team members. b. Bo reported on the status of the winter sports teams. 1. Gymnastics placed third in their first meet in December. Bo explained that it is becoming difficult to get officials for meets; therefore, the structure of meets will most likely change to fewer and larger meets in the future. 2. Swimming: Girls are 3-2 and Boys are 0-4-1. To date, the girls have broken eight records and the boys have broken two. 3. Boys basketball is currently 5-4. The Holiday Tournament was a success, raising money for both the Athletic Department and Rush for a Cause, a charity which supports high school athletes who have been severely injured in their sport. 4. Girls basketball is 7-5 and are currently ranked 12th in northeast Ohio. 5. Wrestling is currently 3-3. 6. A question was raised regarding the possibility of NRMS/NRHS hosting tournaments for youth travel basketball leagues. Bo indicated he has not received any requests to host a tournament, but it would be considered. 1
3. Treasurer’s Report – Greg Robinson reviewed the finance report with the membership. He reported that the uniform requests for next year are projected to be approximately $50,000. The full treasurer’s report is on file. Please contact Greg with any questions. 4. New Business: a. The Scholarship Committee will consist of Ben Morgan, Paul Twarog, Greg Robinson, Jeff Evanko and Carey Marousek. As in the past, no committee member is the parent of a senior. Boosters will award 10 total scholarships to five male athletes and five female athletes. b. Uniform Updates: Paul Twarog reported that guidelines are being established to ensure that uniforms are ordered in a timely and cost effective manner. A procedure will be provided to Bo Kuntz for distribution to the coaches. In general, fall uniforms must be requested by the end of March, winter uniforms by the end of May and spring uniforms by the end of October. All requests must be accompanied by three competitive bids. Bo Kuntz works closely with the coaches to evaluate the condition of the uniforms, as some may not need replaced each four to five years. 5. Trustee Reports a. Car Raffle – No report. b. Concessions – No report. c. Gold Cards –Cards are still available for sale at the Activities Office or contact Kelly Tarnowski or Kris Paulus. d. Letter Jackets – Ben reported that jacket orders have been steady. Next year will be Jennifer Morgan’s last year coordinating letter jackets, and Ben encouraged the parent of an underclassman to consider working with Jennifer next year to learn the position. e. Membership – Paul Twarog reported membership is at approximately 250. f. Newsletter/Publicity – Carey Marousek indicated the next newsletter will be issued after the Winter Sports Awards. Team reps are asked to forward all team awards. g. Night at the Races –NATR will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2016. The trustees are holding a planning meeting this month. h. Programs – The Winter Programs have been published and are available at all events. Jason Grimes indicated that he is looking for a replacement trustee to work with Michelle next year. The position involves selling ad space, assisting with ad design, coordination with photographer on picture day and working with the printer. i. Purple & Gold Booth – It was suggested that a credit card reader be available in the Purple and Gold Booth as many customers have requested that option. j. Team Sports Liaison – A team representative is needed for varsity baseball. Dan will send a reminder to the team reps regarding a basket for Night at the Races. k. Website Administrator – Jeff Evanko thanked the team reps for sending in articles and game scores, particularly the “senior spotlights” provided by the swim team. He reported that traffic to the web site was 12,000 hits in November, down from previous months due to minimal article posted between seasons. Please continue to provide content for the web site to

UPDATE PLEASE NOTE: The next meeting will be held on Monday, February 8, 2016 due to the presentation by the Community Engagement Task Force on Monday, February 1 in the HS Performing Arts Center. NRAB members are encouraged to attend both meetings. 7. The meeting adjourned at 7:50 p.m.
