LATEST NEWS FROM AROUND THE CLUB Cassidy stars for British Colleges: After travelling up to Stirling on the Friday, 2 matches were played on the Saturday (1 in the morning & the other in the afternoon). The normal squad of 22 players had been reduced to 16 due to availabilty (probably partly due to the distance needing to be travelled!), with 3 of those 16 players being goalkeepers, so only 13 outfield players! (If only Dermot had brought his kit with him!!!) Liam played mainly left or right wing & after a poor team performance in the 1st game, which they lost 4-2 (I think most of the lads thought they were still playing summer league rather than against top opposition!), they suffered a couple of minor injuries against the well driledl & hard playing Scottish team.

SUMMER LEAGUE UPDATE
In the afternoon game and despite the weary legs the British Colleges surprisingly rallied to show their fighting spirit & reverse the mornings’ score line to win 4-2! Liam setting up the 3rd goal with a nice bit of skill on the sideline, tapping the ball into the pitch, getting it to pop over his opponents stick & then cross for an easy tap in!
With only a couple of weeks of the league left, the table is shaping up nicely. NHC side Oddbods, led by Ben Scott are comfortably leading the way! Smarties are the next club side to feature as they prop up 2nd place. The Lions results have suffered in the last few weeks so they’re slightly up against it to get into the top 4 for the knockout stages, whilst Tigers and Pimp My Side continue to show their topsy turvey form
So all in all a good performance to end with & make the journey well worthwhile! Written by Dermot Cassidy

Northampton HC tour and summer league team 'Pimp My Side' entered a charity netball tournament at Moulton College on 11th July.
Rachel Langley and John Stone show off their defensive skills in the netball competition!
This was open to mixed teams, so some of the men were in for a bit of a shock as this was the first time they had played netball in their lives!! By far the least experienced team there (with no actual netball players), Pimp My Side were definitely the underdogs, and this clearly showed as they lost their first 2 games! However with the Pimps quickly learning the game, and their secret weapon, John Stone arriving, they knew that a victory was in sight. Thanks to hot shot goal attackers Rachel Langley and Tom "Don't panic!" Warburton the Pimps won their next game. Sadly this was as good as it got!! However they finished the tournament a respectable 7th out of 10. Not bad for a bunch of hockey players!!

Club Open Day – What’s it all about? As you hopefully read on the June newsletter; we're holding an open day, on the 21st August in a bid to attract new members - young and old. This open day will only be a success if we can advertise it to as many people as possible. This is where you as members need to get involved! We want you to spread the word to friends, family, work colleagues, neighbours, anyone you know. Put flyers up at your gym, local shop, pub, child's nursery or village notice boards. Let's all do our bit to promote our hockey club! You can download flyers for the open day from the members area of the club website: www.saintshockey.org.uk (If you can't get on to the members area contact Matt) The whole day is all about having a bit of fun, so bring your friends along and show them that hockey is a 2009-10 AGM 'proper sport', enjoy the BBQ, have a beer in the bar, relax in the sunshine.

As a club we are now bringing through a record number of juniors, this means it's only a matter of time before we'll need to introduce another senior team(s) to help accommodate these junior players. However with any senior team, you actually need adults as well! On the junior section, we just want more juniors. You naturally lose some junior members as they get older, as some go off and find other interests (music, etc). So it really is a numbers game, the more juniors we have, the more we can bring right through the club to the top teams.
What else can I do to help? On the day we're going to need volunteers; helping with coaching, meeting and greeting potential new members, catering, manning the bouncy castle, etc.
If you can help in anyway then please email Jon Keep:
