Petoske Update January 2017 Dear Family and Friends, As we start the new year we want to take a few minutes to reflect on where God has brought us from in 2016. We started last year believing we were going to stay in Wiesbaden, Germany another year and a half. Oh, how God has a sense of humor! By the last day in February, we were told that our contracts with the military were ending. That gave us four months to figure out what we were doing before our ID’s expired. Hence, began the whirlwind! We quickly came to the decision that Wiesbaden held no future for us as a family, specifically with the idea of Duncan going to a German school as a sophomore. We continue to pray for the families of Wiesbaden, but because of the political environment it was necessary for us to make some drastic decisions. As we prayed we did not believe that our time in Europe was over, and through faithful support and a firm belief in God’s call, we pursued other options. In April, we visited Kyiv Christian Academy and believed wholeheartedly that this was the right avenue for us. In May, we received word that Julian had been accepted to Wheaton College. By the end of June, we had all of our belongings packed and stored in Germany with the intent of being shipped to Kyiv in August. All four of us enjoyed some refreshing/healing times with family and friends during the summer Stateside, looking forward to new adventures in August. After being in Kyiv for four months the three of us truly believe that we are exactly where God wants us. And, in spite of the distance, we truly believe that Julian is exactly where he’s supposed to be. It was great to have Julian come to Kyiv for Christmas and did wonders for our hearts. Of course, it was very difficult to say good-bye to him, but again we all know where we are supposed to be. That brings us a lot of comfort. Thank you for being part of this journey with us by praying for us and supporting us through giving! Terence, Jen, Julian, Duncan

If you haven’t switched over, don’t forget to do so:)
*Please keep praying that all the details come together to start building on the new school property. *Please pray for Jen as she begins her Masters next week; it’s been a while since she’s been in school. *We are helping chaperone the basketball trip to Budapest in February. Just pray for safety and fun. We’re also chaperoning the junior/senior trip in April in Athens, so please pray that all of the students will be able to go as this is a financial stretch for some of them. *Pray that God continues to keep our finances healthy.
Pictured left is our family during the Nutcracker intermission. It was beautiful to see this Ukrainian ballet company perform! It was crazy watching a ballet from a box in the Former Soviet Union!
The Kyiv Metro carries 1.439 million passengers daily, accounting for 38% of Kyiv's public transport load. This was one of the days it felt like they were ALL on the Metro at once.
Family picture Thanks, Melissa Whelan, for the Cubs World Series Shirts! It was great to have the whole family together for Christmas. The boys are so big they dwarf our 6 ft. tree! Just kidding...it’s a really small tree! Gold Domes are everywhere! This one is St. Michael's golden-domed monastery. It is a fully functioning monastery, located on the right bank of the Dnieper River,.
