Subject: Year 2017 Tax Levy
Attached please find the proposed 2017 tax levy calculations. Rather than calculating the tax levy based on maintaining the same dollar levy amount, staff has calculated the 2017 levy by maintaining the2016 levy rate of. 4669. Consistent with Village Board direction, this levy rate has remained unchanged for the past four years.
It is important to point out that the Village approves the annual tax levy based on dollars requested ( not rate). The County Clerk then calculates the tax rate needed to produce the amount of dollars requested by each taxing district. Because of this, staff is using in its calculations a
higher
overall
Equalized Assessed Value ( EAV).
This higher EAV estimate is to
ensure that the Village captures the entire amount of the Village' s EAV, while still maintaining
the 2016 levy rate of. 4669. The 2017 levy represents a total request of$ 6, 349, 600; however the actual dollar amount the Village will receive is anticipated to be less. Staff will present and
discuss the proposed tax levy in greater detail at the October 23rd Village Workshop. As a reminder, the information provided is specific only to the Village of Plainfield' s portion of the property tax bills. The Village of Plainfield' s portion of the 2016 tax
levy
was
5. 13%.
Or, for
every dollar paid in property taxes by Village residents, 5. 13 cents is paid to the Village of Plainfield.
The proposed 2017 tax levy timeline is as follows: November 6th Village Board Meeting: Motion to acknowledge the preliminary estimate of the 2017 tax levy in the amount of$ 6, 349, 600 Week of November 20th: Publication of Notice of the Public Hearing for the Tax levy in The Enterprise of Plainfield and the Ledger-Sentinel of Oswego
December 4, 2017: Public Hearing on the proposed 2017 Tax Levy December 4, 2017 or December 18, 2017: Village Board consideration of the 2017 Tax
