August 2015

Service & Fellowship (continued) at the Pioneer Church at the Fairgrounds. St. Stephen’s is hosting the event this year. Again, please bring a lawn chair, sunscreen, bug spray and a dish to share! There will be a morning service at St. Stephen’s that day at 10:30 A.M.

Safeguarding God’s Children Due to insurance requirements, and because we want to always do our part to help prevent or intervene in a productive manner in the event of child abuse, St. Stephen’s will be offering a Safeguarding God’s Children class on Saturday, August 1st, at 1:00 P.M. All keyholders (people who have keys to St. Stephen’s) are encouraged to attend this training if you have not done so in the last 3 years. It is also a requirement from our insurance company. If you will not be able to attend this training, but need to attend a training session, please let George Dickerson know. There are two 2-hour sessions on Saturday. If you are in doubt of whether you need one 2-hour session or both, please call George Dickerson at 577-0010.

Sincere Condolences We offer our sincere condolences to Tris & Deb English in the loss of Tris’s father, Cliff English. Cliff’s memorial service will be held August 2nd at 11:00 A.M. at Grace Episcopal Church in Decorah, IA. Tris will also be presiding at Grace’s Sunday morning service that day. Please lift their family up in prayers for comfort, strength, and peace during this difficult time.

An Update from Tris Friends, By now you have probably heard that Fr. Philip Major resigned from St. Mark’s last week effective immediately. You may have also heard that I was being considered as their Interim Rector. I am writing to you to let you know that I am not leaving St. Stephen’s. Their vestry has chosen to enter a search process for an Interim Rector and I have shared with them that I would not be part of it. There are two reasons for this decision. The first is that St. Stephen’s and the Diocese should not be in limbo for the next five (Continued on page 3)

Discernment: Please continue to pray as we discern our calls to the ministry. Shared Ministry is the work of ALL of us at St. Stephen’s. Loving God, Help us to be open to the moving of your Spirit. Help us to work together to grow into all that you want us to be. Help us to share Christ with the world. Most of all, help us to love each other as you have loved us. We pray all of these things in your holy name. Amen.

You should also know that I am not looking to leave St. Stephen’s at this time. I love St. Stephen’s and what you offer me. I offered this to St. Mark’s because I felt I had the skill set they need, I already have a strong relationship with them and genuinely care for them, and experience as a Rector would help me in my own discernment down the road. I also felt that God wanted me to explore this.
