Reaching Out With a Little Bling! nd
On May 2 I dropped off items for Central Wyoming Hospice’s upcoming Bling it On! Fundraiser. While the photo doesn’t do our dona- tion justice, we made a significant contribution that will go a long way in supporting this very worthwhile agency. If you wish to be part of the May 8th fundraiser, it’s easy to participate. Enjoy an evening mingling with your friends, drinking wine, and revamping your wardrobe with practically new jewelry, handbags and scarves priced at incredible savings! Your admission includes complimentary wine, hors d’oeuvres and four hours of shopping! The event is Thursday May 8th from 5pm to 9pm at Sak’s Consign- ment Boutique. Lent Madness Results The English minister and h ymn -w r i t e r Ch ar l e s Wesley edged Harriet Bedell, 20th-century missionary and justice advocate, to win the coveted Golden Halo in this year’s Lent Madness. Charles Wesley is the author of such popular hymns as “Hark! The herald an- gels sing,” “ Love Divine, all Loves Excelling,” and “O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing!” On Easter Day, millions of Christians will sing one of his most famous hymns, “Christ the Lord is Risen Today!” Along with his brother John, Wesley was a principal leader in the 19thcentury Methodist revival within the Church of England, which ultimately led to the founding of the Methodist Church. Monthly Outreach There is still time to donate to April’s outreach program—Central Wyoming Hospice’s Bling it On! Accessory Sale. This event on May 8th from 5:00—9:00 PM at Saks Thrift Avenue (located in the Triangle Shopping Center across from Home Depot) will sell gently used jewelry (bracelets, rings, earrings and necklaces), handbags and scarves. Twenty-five percent of sales of Saks everyday items that evening will be donated to Central Wyoming Hospice as well. Admission to the sale is $10 and includes wine, coffee, tea, and hors d’oeuvres. Please donate your jewelry, handbags, and scarves to a great charity (and it’s tax deductible). You can donate your items

Our May outreach benefits Cathedral Home for Children in Laramie. All donations raised at St. Stephen’s will be matched from our Mustard Seed funds and then will again be matched by The Foundation for the Episcopal Diocese of Wyoming. In 1910, Cathedral Home began as an orphanage, providing shelter for children around the state of Wyoming. In the last century the agency has developed into a full-service residential treatment home that serves troubled and traumatized youth, including those who are deaf or hard-of-hearing.

Discernment: Please continue to pray as we discern our calls to the ministry. Shared Ministry is the work of ALL of us at St. Stephen’s. Loving God, Help us to be open to the moving of your Spirit. Help us to work together to grow into all that you want us to be. Help us to share Christ with the world. Most of all, help us to love each other as you have loved us. We pray all of these things in your holy name. Amen.

Palm Sunday Loose Offerings While sharing Palm Sunday service with our neighbors at Shepherd of the Hills Church, a total of $138 was collected in loose offerings. That amount will be matched
Beauty in Brokenness Leonard Sweet, author of Strong in the Broken Places, describes a style of Japanese pottery called kintsukuroi. It’s the art of repairing pottery with gold or silver lacquer, leaving the piece more beautiful f or havi ng been br oken. God is like a kintsukuroi potter, healing and staying near to the brokenhearted (see Psalm 34:18; 51:17; and 147:3). Instead of ashes, mourning and despair, God provides “a crown of beauty,” “the
Beauty (cont.) oil of joy” and “a garment of praise” (Isaiah 61:3, NIV). Although earthly brokenness brings pain, the Master Creator can turn it into something amazing that glorifies him. When life seems to fall apart, remember that our powerful God can make you more beautiful for having been broken.
Honor Our Mothers on May 11th and Our Servicemen and Women who have preserved our freedoms on May 26th.
