Rivercrest Elementary Parent Newsletter October 2017
RISD Safety Summit “Has my child’s teacher been trained in what to do if there were an active shooter on campus?” “What would the teachers and students at Rivercrest do in case of a fire or tornado?” “How is bullying addressed at RISD?” “Why do they keep the doors locked?” “Why am I required to stop by the office upon entrance to the building?” If any of these thoughts have ever crossed your mind, then you should attend the RISD Safety Summit on October 23 at 6:00 p.m. Participants will also learn ways to keep themselves safe in an emergency situation. A free meal will be available, and door prizes will be awarded.

Wear Orange: Make a statement! Red Ribbon Week is October 24-31, 2017 Rivercrest Elementary will observe Red Ribbon Week Tuesday, October 24, 2017 - Wednesday, October 31, 2017. Red Ribbon Week is a week set aside each year for students and their communities to unite and take a visible stand against substance abuse. Students will participate in different activities that will educate them on the dangers of substance abuse and challenge them to commit to a drug-free lifestyle. The elementary campus will have a special theme for each day, and the students will have the opportunity to dress accordingly. See each day’s theme on attached calendar. Did you know...children of parents who talk to them about drugs are 42% less likely to use drugs than those who don’t, yet only a quarter of teens report having had these conversations with their parents. Parents, be a part! Go to http://redribbon.org/pledge/ to sign the online pledge to help your children grow up safe, healthy, and drug-free.
