RMAC/Rawlings Players of the Week Offensive Player of the Week Chris Bonner CSU-Pueblo Junior, Quarterback, 6-7, 225 San Diego, Calif./Clairemont HS Bonner turned in his third career 300yard game in the ThunderWolves’ 3813 RMAC-clinching win over Western State. In the game, he vaulted over previous recordholder Ross Dausin to become the ThunderWolves’ top single-season passing yardage leader (now at 3,116). This season, Bonner has thrown 30 touchdowns, also a single season school record.

Kole Kadavy Colorado Mines Junior, Linebacker, 5-11, 205 Greeley, Colo./Greeley Central Kadavy led the defensive efforts for Mines during the squad’s 23-0 victory over Chadron State on Saturday with five tackles, 0.5 tackle for loss and two pass break ups in addition to a 33-yard interception return for a touchdown to give the Orediggers a 10-0 lead in the second quarter. It the third defensive touchdown of Kadavy’s career after scoring twice during the 2012 season.

Logan Beck Adams State Freshman, Kicker, 6-0, 165 Highlands Ranch, Colo./ ThunderRidge HS Beck kicked the go-ahead, 39-yard field goal, as time expired in front of nearly 2,000 opposing fans, to give the Grizzlies the road win at Colorado Mesa on Saturday. He also had a 44-yarder which sailed true midway through the fourth quarter to tie the game at 10 apiece after ASU fell behind 10-0 in the opening period. The Grizzlies won 19-17.

2013 RMAC Football News & Notes Adams State University (7-4, 5-4 RMAC) Offense: Justin Kauffman (Junior, Running Back, 6-2, 215, Anchorage, Alaska / West Anchorage HS) Kauffman rushed for 97 yards and a touchdown in a win over Colorado Mesa University, 19-17. Defense: Bobby Anzures (Sophomore, Safety, 5-11, 190, Moorpark, Calif. / Moorpark HS) Anzures had an interception for 20 yards in a win over Colorado Mesa University, 19-17. Special Teams: Logan Beck (Freshman, Kicker, 6-0, 165, Highlands Ranch, Colo./ThunderRidge HS) RMAC Special Team Player of the Week Black Hills State University (2-8, 2-6 RMAC) Defense: Brian Baldwin (Junior, Centerback, 5-9, 173, Camarillo, Calif. / Adolfo Camarillo HS) In the Yellow Jackets 17-14 win at Fort Lewis, Baldwin had his second interception of the year returned for a touchdown for at least 70 yards as he took an 83-yard interception for a touchdown and added four solo tackles for a defense that held Fort Lewis scoreless the final three quarters and to 77 total yards in the second half. Special Teams: Christian Parr (Freshman, Kicker, 6-5, 180, Forsyth, MT / Forsyth HS) Parr had his second game-winning field goal of the season as he hit from 34 yards out on Saturday at Fort Lewis with less than six minutes remaining to give the Yellow Jackets a 17-14 lead and eventual victory. Parr is now an RMAC-leading 11-of-12 on field goals with a long of 44 yards and has 16 touchbacks on kickoffs this season to date. Chadron State College (8-3, 7-2 RMAC) Team Notes: Colorado Mines dashed Chadron State College’s hopes of advancing to the NCAA Division II playoffs Saturday afternoon by blanking the Eagles 23-0 in the season finale for both teams. The Eagles, who were averaging 506.3 yards in total offense entering the game, were limited to just 262 by the Orediggers and never got beyond Mines’ 38-yard line. The Eagles completed 23 of 44 passes for 146 yards, but had nine passes broken up by the Orediggers. CSC rushed for 116 yards with tailback Glen Clinton carrying 21 times for 94 yards, giving him 1,518 for the season. Colorado Mesa University (5-6, 4-5 RMAC) Defense: Jake Edmiston (Senior, Linebacker, 6-2, 220, Palisade, Colo./Palisade HS) Senior Linebacker Jake Edmiston continued to rack up tackles in the narrow 19-17 home loss to Adams State. He picked up 22 stops on his way to his final NCAA-best total of 177 for the year.
2013 RMAC Football News & Notes Colorado School of Mines (8-3, 7-2 RMAC) Offense: Matt Brown (Junior, Quarterback, 6-3, 205, Limon, Colo. / Limon) Brown led the Orediggers offensively during the squad’s season-closing 23-0 win over Chadron State on Saturday with 318 yards of total offense and a rushing touchdown. He finished 22-of-34 for 233 yards through the air while adding 80 yards rushing on 22 carries, including a six-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to give Mines a 17-0 lead. Defense: Kole Kadavy (Junior, Linebacker, 5-11, 205, Greeley, Colo./Greeley Central HS) RMAC Defensive Player of the Week Special Teams: Avery Llewellyn (Sophomore, Kicker/Punter, 6-4, 180, Durango, Colo. / Durango HS) Llewellyn made all three of his field goal attempts (24, 27, 33) and punted once for 56 yards in Mines’ 23-0 win over Chadron State on Saturday at Campbell Field in Golden. He finished the year 14-of-19 on field goals and 44-of-47 on extra points after making both his attempts on Saturday. The two-time RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week also notched two touchbacks on six kickoffs and accounted for 11 of Mines’ 23 points in the win. Team Notes: Mines (8-3, 7-2 RMAC) held Chadron State (8-3, 7-2 RMAC) to just 262 yards of offense after the Eagles entered Saturday’s contest averaging 506.3 yards per game. The biggest impact came on the Eagles’ rushing attack, boasting Harlon Hill candidate Glen Clinton, who spearheaded the CSC 245.4 rushing average with 142.4 yards per game. The Oredigger defensive unit held CSC to 153 yards on the ground, including 94 by Clinton on 21 attempts. Mines picked off CSC quarterback Jonn McClain twice and forced another fumble, including a 33-yard pick-six by junior Kole Kadavy to start the second quarter which gave Mines a 10-0 lead. Senior Ryan Wood thwarted a hail mary attempt at halftime with an interception in the end zone and sophomore Billy Sprague pulled off a sack-fumble in early stages of the fourth quarter that was returned by Dallas Fields. Despite going 0-for-2 on fourth down attempts inside the CSC two yard line, Mines was able to put up 23 points and 369 yards of offense on 78 plays. The Orediggers showed great discipline in the matchup after committing just one penalty for five yards. Conversely, the Eagles were flagged 10 times for a total of 109 yards. Junior Matt Brown led the offense with 313 yards of total offense after finishing 22-of-34 for 233 yards through the air. He also added 80 rushing yards on 22 carries, including a six-yard touchdown run with 9:24 remaining in the second quarter to put Mines up 17-0. Senior Dan Palmer finished with 29 yards on 13 carries and will end his storied career with 2,407 yards – good for second in program history. He also finished his career with 236 career points to also finish second in program history for the category. Senior Tyler Denson went over 100 tackles for the second-straight season with 10 on Saturday for 103 on the season. Junior defensive back Ian McFadden led the squad with 11 tackles (six solo) and 0.5 tackle for loss and a pass break up. Sprague notched 10 stops, 1.0 sack, 1.5 tackle for loss and a forced fumble to close his season second on the team with 81 tackles. Senior Chad McGraw recorded seven stops, 1.5 tackle for loss, two pass break ups and a quarterback hurry, while Kadavy notched five stops, 0.5 tackle for loss, two pass break ups and the 33-yard pick six. Senior defensive linemen Jake Utley and Alex Laudenslager added five stops apiece, with Laudenslager adding a team-high 2.0 tackles for loss. Wood added five stops, a pass break up and an interception as well. Sophomore Jimmy Ellis, the leading receiver in the RMAC entering Saturday, added 12 catches for 103 yards while classmate Cole Spurgeon notched 85 yards on four catches. Senior Jordan Ward added 46 receiving yards on five catches in his final collegiate game. Sophomore Avery Llewellyn made all three of his field goal attempts (24, 27, 33) and punted once for 56 yards. The two-time RMAC Special Teams Player of the Week also notched two touchbacks on six kickoffs. Colorado State University - Pueblo (11-0, 9-0 RMAC) Offense: Chris Bonner (Junior, Quarterback, 6-7, 225, San Diego, Calif./Clairemont HS) RMAC Offensive Player of the Week Defense: Ryan Cummings (Junior, Linebacker, 5-9, 232, Carson, Calif. / Lakewood HS) Cummings recorded his team-leading fourth interception, returning it 24 yards for a touchdown in the ThunderWolves’ 38-13 RMAC-clinching win over Western State. He also recorded five tackles, second-most on the team, in a game that saw the first-team defense only play in the first half. Special Teams: Brandon Kliesen (Senior, Punter, 5-10, 221, Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South HS) The second-leading punter in the nation, Kliesen kept his average high with five punts for an average of 43.4 yards per punt. His longest kick of 63 yards was the fourth-longest of his career. Three of his five punts landed inside the 20 and Western’s average starting position following Kliesen punts was their own 21-yard line. Fort Lewis College (4-7, 3-6 RMAC) Team Notes: Despite recording 207 yards of total offense, completing 9-of-9 passes and scoring two touchdowns in the opening quarter, Fort Lewis fell short in their final game of the regular season, 17-14 to Black Hills State Saturday afternoon. Quarterback Jordan Doyle started the game with 12 straight completions, including 117 yards and two scores in the first quarter. After forcing BHSU to punt on the first drive of the game, Fort Lewis took an early 7-0 lead six minutes into the game. Doyle and Nova Hardy capped off an eight play, 89-yard drive when Hardy caught an 11 yard pass for a score. As a team, Fort Lewis put up 392 yards of total offense on 72 plays to BHSU’s 279 yards of total offense. New Mexico Highlands University (2-9, 1-8 RMAC) Team Notes: The Cowboys travled to Silver City, New Mexico to face Western New Mexico. Despite the Cowboys efforts, they lost 14-43.
2013 RMAC Football News & Notes Western New Mexico University (4-6, 4-5 RMAC) Offense: Donald Byrd(Junior, Wide Reciever, 5-10, 180, Long Beach, CA/ Long Beach Poly) Byrd helped power the Mustang passing attack to help them reclaim the Warrior Helmet with a 43-14 win over New Mexico Highlands. He brought in six passes for 105 yards with two touchdowns. He had a long reception of 44, while his touchdown receptions went for 22 and 29 yards. Defense: Anthony Avina (Sophomore, Defensive Line, 6-1, 275, Lake Elsinore, CA/ Lakeside HS) Avina disrupted the Cowboys throughout the game Saturday. He helped come through with a big early play for WNMU with NMHU pinned inside their own 10, he read a draw play and forced a fumble in the end zone that was recovered for a touchdown. He also had three tackles, two solo, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hurry. Special Teams: Josh McIntire (Sophomore, Kicker, 6-0, 195, El Cajon, Calif./West Hills HS) McIntire changed field position several times in helping the Mustangs to the win over NMHU. He drilled his best punt of the day on his first one that went 69 yards and pinned the Cowboys deep in their own territory. That later led to a WNMU touchdown on defense. Three other punts went inside the 20, as he had another punt sail over 50 yards. He averaged 43.3 yards per punt on seven attempts. In addition, he was a perfect 4-for-4 on extra points and made a 24-yard field goal. His kickoffs were also solid as five of his eight went for touchbacks and he averaged 64.1 yards per kick. Western State Colorado University (2-8, 2-6 RMAC) Offense: Arius Norris (Junior, Running Back, 5-8, 175, Denver, Colo. / Thornton High School) Arius Norris replaced starting running back Austin Ekeler for the Mountaineers after Ekeler suffering a season-ending injury. Norris ran for 130 on a mere 16 carries, averaging 8.1 yards per carry against CSU-Pueblo’s RMAC leading rush defense. Defense: Kalvin Winter (Junior, Linebacker, 6-1, 205, Confier, Colo. / Conifer High School) Kalvin Winter scored the only touchdown for the Mountaineers on Saturday. Winter scored his touchdown on a pick-six. The Western linebacker intercepted an errand pass from CSU-Pueblo and returned it 18 yards for the score. Winter also recorded four tackles in the game. Special Teams: Ryan Winke (Freshman, Kicker, 6-2, 210, Aurora, Colo. / Cherokee Trail HS) Ryan Winke kicked two field goals and one extra point on Saturday against CSU-Pueblo. Winke put the Mountaineers ahead 3-0 on Western’s first drive of the game, kicking a 21-yard field goal. Winke added another field goal, this one from 26 yards out, at the 4:28 mark in the third quarter.

Preseason Offensive Player of the Year Glen Clinton, Chadron State Running Back Senior, 5-10, 200 Cody, Wyo./Cody HS Clinton led the RMAC in rushing with 1,350 yards on 217 carries (6.7 yards/attempt) in 2012 and was named to the All-RMAC and All-Nebraska Division II First Teams following the season. He averaged 112.5 yards rushing per game and scored seven touchdowns. Clinton also had 21 receptions for 218 yards and a TD. He rushed for over 100 yards in six games and he eclipsed the 200-yard barrier twice, including a career-high 245 yards against CSU-Pueblo. Following the season, he was named a Capital One/CoSIDA Academic All-American.
Preseason Defensive Player of the Year Darius Allen, CSU-Pueblo Defensive End Junior, 6-2, 218 Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East HS Allen was named All-RMAC Second Team in 2012. He recorded two sacks and a forced fumble over Northwestern Oklahoma State, and had a season-high 10 tackles, with 1.5 tackles for a loss, against Chadron State. He also made nine tackles in an NCAA DII Semifinal playoff game. Allen finished the season with 45 tackles, three sacks and two fumble recoveries.
Preseason Special Teams Player of the Year Brandon Kliesen, CSU-Pueblo Punter Senior, 5-10, 210 Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South HS A 2012 Capital One/CoSIDA Academic AllAmerican, Don Hansen’s Football Gazette All-American, and Second Team All-RMAC selection, Kliesen averaged 45.6 yards per punt. 17 of his punts were downed inside the 20, while only seven were touchbacks. Kliesen’s longest effort of the year came in the NCAA Division II Semifinal game against West Texas A&M in which he booted an 87-yard punt.
