GAME NOTES Gunning for .500: The Bearcats’ 17-14 win over Waynesburg last weekend clinched four wins in a season for the first time since the 1960 team finished 4-1-3. Now SVC turns its sights to a five-win season for the first time since 1957. Five wins would also clinch a .500 record for the first time in modern-program history as well as the first since 1961 when the Bearcats closed the season 3-1-3. Senior Leadership: This weekend, the Bearcats expect to start 12 seniors combined between offense and defense. This year’s class of seniors have been a part of every win in Saint Vincent history since the re-birth of football prior to the 2007 season, including the first win, a 2322 victory at Gallaudet in 2008. Special Scores: SVC blocked two punt attempts against Waynesburg. Senior DB Zara Wallace blocked the first punt in the second quarter, which was the first blocked punt since Matt Pietrowsky vs. Thomas More in 2008. Freshman DB Devin Anderson blocked a punt in the third quarter with SVC trailing, 14-7, that he picked up and returned for a touchdown, marking the first time in modern history a Bearcat returned a blocked punt for a touchdown. Bearcats of the Week: After having a PAC Player of the Week in each of the team’s first five games this season, Anderson was honored as the league’s Special Teams Player of the Week, snapping a two-game drought. Since becoming full-time members of NCAA Division III and the PAC at the beginning of last season, SVC has received one of three weekly laurels from the league office 11 times.

2

Rushing to Get There: The Bearcats gained 142 yards on the ground last week, leaving them three yards shy of tying the program’s single-season rushing mark of 1,267 yards, which was set last season.

Terrific Tandem: The running back tandem of senior Mike Kale and sophomore Huey Ehredt combined for 131 yards on 32 carries against Waynesburg. In each game this season, the two have combined to Football Facts rush for at least 100 yards. Re-writing the Record Books: Senior QB Aaron Smetanka set a new single-season record last week with 146 completions and 237 pass attempts on the season. Freshman K Morgan Porter moved into second place all-time with points in a season as he has amassed 35 points so far in 2011. He also passed former K Ian Jones for most PAT’s made and attempted in a season with 23 and 28, respectively.

Picks, Please: Freshman DB Darius Brown recorded two interceptions at Waynesburg. It marked the fourth time in modern history a Bearcat has intercepted two passes in a game and was most recently done by former DB Rob James against Grove City in 2009. SVC also tied its singlegame record for most interceptions in a game with three, set earlier this season against W&J. The next SVC interception will tie last season’s Sports Information team record of 13.
