Seniors on the Move Having a

with

Jesus

Hi all you Senior Revelers! In case you haven’t read the words on that little balloon up above, it says “Happy New Year!” So here we are, ready to listen to fireworks until midnight or later, and willing to ask Jesus’ help to make a couple of resolution changes in our personality. Well, aren’t we? He’s the One who can mold our character into miraculous improvements, often without our even knowing he’s doing it! Let’s see how we can help Him: DO WE NEED TO GIVE OTHER PEOPLE A HAND? This list might be full of inspiration. It was tucked into our 2018 Directories that were handed out at our celebration Christmas Potluck. Let’s take a look: We can roll up our sleeves to assist with set-up or take-down at one of those monthly lunches. Our contact person is Janis Fiebelkorn. (We’ll use that new Directory to find the telephone number or email). We can brush off our sewing machine or rally our cutting and ironing skills to join other women at our crazy-productive Sewing Bees. Alice Perteet is your Sign-Up person. And here you are men! Your very own way to make lawn decorations for Christmas 2018 as well as meet other men dedicated to Jesus and enjoying a few hours together in friendship. Call Mike Walker. Then if you’d enjoy driving other Seniors people, call Alan Ribeira about chaufering an Outing or Sandy Haugen to aid a person who has an appointment or needs groceries but doesn’t drive now. And we know some of you like to help Jesus feed us robustly and cheerfully when we need meals. Kathy Hopkins is ready to guide us to give a culinary hand to overwhelmed folk who would gratefully accept a few meals. Then, we know that our first and best way to battle an urgent situation is prayer. If we’ve heard of a fellow Senior who could benefit from a prayer, we can call it in to Janis Fiebelkorn. Or we can also join other prayer warriors to help send up the requests and gratitudes to Jesus that people have asked for. Harriett James is our contact for that as well as to gather up the changes that we need to our new Directories. OR lastly, we may have noticed a situation where our group could use more help, such as occasionally keyboarding our hymns. Alan Ribeira will gather up these ideas so that we can help Jesus take care of them. This list can be our way to a splendid New Year! OR is Jesus leaning on us to soften our hearts a bit and begin this New Year by forgiving someone? Hear King David’s request in Psalm 86:11 --- “Teach me thy way, O Lord; I will walk in thy truth.” Jesus can show us how to look at a troubling situation His way! (KJV)

ARE WE READY TO MAKE NEW FRIENDS? There are many chances at our Potlucks where we can rise up out of our chairs (or out of our shyness) and greet new people or a person who’s been there awhile but is new to us. We can make them welcome by asking questions about them and telling some radical, funny or enlightening things about ourselves! ALSO, MAYBE YOU HAVE IDEAS for how to help Jesus bring new events to our Seniors group.

Let’s kick up our

Heels with Jesus!

“And the Seniors went forth that day Joyful and with a Glad Heart.” (Paraphrased Esther 5:9 KJV.) OK. Those of us who’ve read the green sheet that was tucked into our new Directories know to call Barbara Dozier if we suddenly can’t come to an Outing. She’ll tell the shuttle drivers and restaurant staff if our numbers are significantly changed. Also, we can SIGN UP with her if we suddenly discover we CAN go! Then call Alice Perteet if you need the Fund for Fun. Ready now? Let’s have an adventure! Thursday, January 11th: Here’s our first monthly Potluck of 2018 and a chance for the adventure of soul-satisfying fellowship as well as opportunity to meet new people. And Yes, we DO need it! Statistics show that if Seniors-age folks can keep adding friendships to their days, their health is better and their outlook more joyful. How can we lose?! So for this Potluck we can create or buy something satisfying to eat and share --- a hot main dish, fruit or vegetable salad, or a hot vegetable, deviled eggs or dinner rolls or a dessert. Look for people to introduce yourself to in the Multi-Purpose room around noon. Come earlier if you like plenty of time to talk with friends. We open with a prayer from Alan Ribeira at 12:30PM and adjourn with a prayer around 2:30PM. Connie Walker will surprise and nourish our faith with another Holy-Spirit-inspired presentation, people will dash forward with Jesus to wear the Birthday Hat, and we’ll sing a few hymns with Him and laugh a few laughs too. My Christmas tree fell over five nights ago. Bud Harrington helped muscle it up again. Everything shifted --- one-third of the decorations are now under the tree, the tree skirt is askew, red ribbon is askew, star that was on top now dangles halfway down the branches. I looked at the tree several minutes while only the colored lights went on, also badly askew, and decided ---- It’s going to stay that way! Merry Christmas!!

Friday, January 12th: Our Sewing Bee ladies will gather with Jesus for the new year and GET TO WORK ! Headquarters is at Alice Perteet’s home, as usual, at 10 o’clock, as usual, with lunch, as usual. Friday, January 26th they’ll do it all again! Tuesday, January 30th: The people who add focus and inspiration to our yearly activities will gather from 10 – 11:30AM in the Annex quilting room for their first 2018 Seniors’ Advisory Board meeting, also with Jesus. Lunch is afterward at a restaurant of choice, often Mrs. Turner’s or Aversano’s. Thursday, January 25th: We’ll head 45 minutes east in our shuttles for lunch at Issaquah’s classic, museum-like XXX Root Beer Diner. Their specialty is, you guessed it, root beer/fries/burgers. Be ready for cool weather and great conversation, leaving the church at 10:15 AM. Across the street from the Diner is the little factory with remarkable chocolate-fragranced air and a great gift shop ----- Boehm’s Chocolate Factory (rhymes with “bones”). Their sample-embelished walking tour is about 40 minutes and costs $5, and guess Who’ll be walking with us! Coming 11AM February 1st is BUNKO! With brown bag lunches. Oh JOY! Let’s do it all with Jesus! Joyce (253-862-1017)
