Opening Remarks (Steve Viviano) • Steve Viviano welcomed everyone to the meeting and thanked them for their attendance. Babe Ruth (Bill Queen) • Nothing to report. Majors (Carlos Gil) • Steve Viviano observed that the level of play has declined in the Majors over the past two years. Steve also noted that the talent gap between the top end and the bottom end has widened as well. • Brian Ranagan prepared an exhibit that he shared at the meeting which outlined the pros for contracting the Majors by one team. • Al Tomasco pointed out that we will need 31 new players in the Majors next season if the number of teams remains at 8. Kon John believes that we will have 26 eligible 11 and 12-year olds, 49 eligible 10-year olds, and 21 eligible 9- year olds to fill those spots.

Kon John pointed out that we drafted 33 9 and 10- year olds last season. Kon advocated that we consider limiting the number of draftable 9 and 10- year olds to help produce a better level of play and more parity within the league. Kon John pointed out that we had too many 9 and 10 year olds that were consuming innings on the mound this season and that contributed to the deterioration in the quality of play this season. Steve Viviano stated that he believes that we need to put some new draft rules in place for the 2010 season that will limit the slate of candidates to only those players that all of the managers agree are ready to move to the Majors. The following options were considered for the 2010 season: o Limit the number of 9- year olds that are eligible to be drafted. o Consider some type of mandatory 11-year old draft. o Have each Majors Manager identify the top “X” players in the draft and develop one list of players from which all Managers must make selections. “X” will equal the number of open roster spots in the Majors. The top “X” players in the draft plus ties will become the eligible pool of draft picks. The Board voted to reduce the mandatory minimum game rule from 6 to 4.
Minors (Bob Borkowski) • Bob Borkowski has been reaching out to last year’s managers to identify managers who wish to come back. T-Ball & Farm (Brian Ranagan) • Brian Ranagan cleaned out the Minors shed on Field Clean-Up Day. Safety Officer (Kon John) • Kon John has volunteer applications from most of the Board and will be completing background checks on the Board. Booster Club (Mary Etter) • Mary Etter again mentioned that we need a motion detector light on the Majors concession stand. • Mary Etter mentioned that there is a wiring problem with the back of the grill. Mary will contact an electrician to get these items fixed ASAP. Finance Report (Al Tomasco) • Al Tomasco walked through the Financial Report for October. • Of note, SNB received a $171 United Way contribution in October. • The Board approved the report. • Al Tomasco got a proposal from Pepsi for scoreboards for the Majors Field (6x8) and the Babe Ruth Field (8x12). We would have to make a 7- year commitment to Pepsi that they would be the sole supplier of beverages to Southington North Baseball. Player Agent (Marc Prive) • Nothing to report.
Secretary (John Rogalski) • John Rogalski confirmed that SNB will offer 3 Bator Scholarships in the amount of $1,000 each during the spring 2010 Southington High School awards program. • John Rogalski reported that TruGreen has offered the league a 5% prepay discount for the 2010 season. The Board agreed that we should confirm the terms of this offer and vote on this issue at the December meeting. New Business • Steve Viviano mentioned that other leagues in District 5 have had issues with the embezzlement of concession stand money. Al Tomasco recommended that we create a log for the 2010 season that tracks either the products that are sold or the money that is collected on a nightly basis. • Steve Viviano asked the VPs of each league to identify how local playing rules differ from the rulebook. At the District 5 meeting, it was noted that the league’s local rules and bylaws need to be updated each year. • Steve Viviano mentioned that Chuck Sherwood has completed most of the repair work on the Majors field and will be putting down new turf on the T-Ball field within the next week or so. • Steve Viviano has some suggestions on how to improve the league website. He will be sharing his ideas with the Board and would like feedback. • Steve Viviano mentioned that Mary Baker has volunteered to handle the equipment RFP for the 2010 season. • Tim Connolly volunteered to be the umpire coordinator for the Majors. Tim envisions putting some structure around training and putting some consistency in place with respect to uniforms. We would reach out to adults who might have interest in umpiring and would look for volunteers who would work gratis. Tim envisions that we would continue to pay the kids who umpire in our program. The minimum age for umpiring in the Majors would be 14. 13-year olds who have interest in participating would • Capstone Photography may be attending the December meeting to discuss their capabilities.
