BACKGROUND/HISTORY The Parks and Recreation Commission is a seven member board with terms expiring in four places. The terms of the four places set to expire in April 2016 are held by the following Commissioners: Jeremy S. de Alcala, Luis Calvo, Vincent Villaflor, and Nancy Hart. If reappointed, all four Commissioners want to continue serving on the Commission. The Parks and Recreation Commission is an advisory body to the Mayor and City Council. Its powers and duties include:
Propose recommendations on all policies, rules and regulations relating to the administration of a public park and recreation program. Provide advisory oversight of public playgrounds, athletic fields, recreation centers and other facilities and activities on any of the properties owned or controlled by the city or on other properties with the consent of the owners and authorities. Conduct any form of recreation activity that will employ the leisure time of the people in a constructive and wholesome manner. At the request of the city council, the commission shall make a complete annual report and other required reports to the city council. Advise other municipal departments and/or political subdivisions to provide and establish, operate, conduct, and maintain a supervised recreation system and to acquire, operate, improve and maintain property, both real and personal, for parks, playgrounds, recreation centers, and other recreation facilities and activities. Follow the directives of the city’s comprehensive plan and any subsequent master plans regarding parks, recreation, trails and so forth.

7 members No more than 2 members may be residents of the ETJ (Currently, all seven members of the Commission are city residents) 2-year staggered terms, with 4 appointed in April of even-numbered years and 3 appointed in April of odd-numbered years FINDINGS/CURRENT ACTIVITY
