[email protected] SUBJECT: Mayor Ruge and City Council to formally recognize the winners of the Friends of the Buda Library’s Young Writers Contest.
1. EXECUTIVE SUMMARY Each summer, the Friends of the Buda Library conduct a Young Writers Contest for students between 8 and 17 years old. The winning writers of this program are to be recognized by the Mayor and City Council. 2. BACKGROUND/HISTORY The Friends received eighteen stories for consideration. The stories were judged on the quality of the writing, originality and subject matter. The younger group wrote from the prompt “The first day of summer break I woke up, stretched and looked in the mirror and screamed…” The teen group’s prompt was “At the library, I found a photo stuck between the pages of a book…” 3. STAFF’S REVIEW AND ANALYSIS 8-12 Age Group 3rd place – Joshua Carter, Grape Juice 2nd place – Ariel Whiddon, Scientist for a Day 1st place – Leah Whiddon, The Monster in My Head 13-17 Age Group 3rd place – Noah Mugan, I Meet Myself 2nd place – Hannah Clark, The Missing Clue 1st place – Madison Rivas, Rainbow for the Ages
4. RECOMMENDATION The Buda Public Library presents these children and teens for commendation based on their excellent stories.
