Sustainable Maryland Application Health & Wellness Innovation Demonstration Project Walk to School Day
Points Requested: 5
On October 7, 2015, the City of Hyattsville participated in National Walk to School Day. City Councilmembers and police officers led three “walking school buses” throughout the morning to get children safely to school. Walking school buses brought children to Hyattsville Elementary School, Edward Felegy Elementary School and Rosa Parks Elementary School. Each “bus” met at a centralized location before starting on their pre-designated route. Students could meet at the start of the route, or join the “bus” as it walked past their homes en route to the various schools. Kids who participated were given sunglasses and drawstring backpacks featuring the City’s logo.
