THE 7 HILLS BASKETBALL FEDERATION 3rd - 6th & 7/8 Grade Girls & Boys – SHOOTOUT TOURNAMENT Game Rules 2016 APPROVED BY THE SEVEN HILLS BASKETBALL FEDERATION

Game Rules 

Ball Size by Division o The basketball used will be a (28.5”) basketball.



Game Length o Games will consist of two (2), sixteen (16) minute halfs, running clock.  Stop Clock for the last 1 minute of the first half, last 2 minutes of second half.  There will be no clock stop if there is a 15 point spread in the 3rd/4th grade divisions, or a 20 point spread in the 5th/6th grade and 7th/8th divisions.



Half Time o Half time will last Five (5) minutes with a running clock.



Time Outs o Each team will be permitted 3 timeouts per regulation game. There will be one (1) time out per each overtime period played. Remaining timeouts do not carry over. Each time out will be for Sixty (60) seconds. o If a team is out of time outs and attempts to call one – a technical foul will be levied.



Player Fouls o Players with five (5) fouls shall be disqualified from further participation in the game. o Once a team is reduced to three (3) the game is forfeited by that team. o Any player ejected from a game for ANY reason will automatically be suspended for the next game (including championship games). **This also includes coaches**



Three Point Shots o 3 points shots are allowed in all grade groups and divisions.



Forfeit of a Game o Players with five (5) fouls shall be disqualified from further participation in the game. Once a team is reduced to three (3) players - the game is forfeited by that team. o A team does not have at least 4 players to start / finish a game. o Due to misconduct by that team’s coaches/players, referee has the right to call a game a “forfeit”. o Penalties levied by the league.



Overtime o OT will be two minute clock stop periods until the deadlock is broken. o One (1) additional timeout will be awarded per team per each overtime period.



Referee Calls, Rules Adherence and Ohio High School Association Basketball Rules o Referees are to read and have the responsibility to follow the SHBBF league rules as outlined in this document. Any rule not outlined in this document will be the referee’s call by following the Ohio High School Association Basketball Rules (OHSABR) o 7th/8th grade regulations – Only 2 players from the same middle school team may participate on the same tournament team. Free Throws / Bonus Free Throws / Foul Line Distances o Bonus free throws =  All leagues will go to “1 and 1” on the seventh (7th) team foul and a double bonus at ten (10) team fouls.  In the 3rd/4th grade divisions, the clock will stop temporarily for a maximum of 20 seconds for the lining up of players for free throws. The clock will start again when the referee hands the ball to the shooter. o Foul Line Distances =  3rd / 4th grade girls – 11 feet  3rd / 4th grade boys – 13 feet  All other divisions – 15 feet. o Players can enter on the release, the shooter may not enter the lane until the ball hits the rim. o O.H.S.A.A. rules for foul shooting line-up shall be used for all grade divisions.



Clock Operator / Scorekeepers o 7Hills Basketball provides the clock operator. Clock operators ARE NOT referee’s or rule interpreters. Any discrepancies should be brought to the attention of the officials, and if needed addressed by the Tournament Director or Representative on site. Any and all scoring conflicts will default to the scorebook. o Again, per our SHBBF charter, sportsmanship and a helpful attitude should be displayed by all coaches/players when working with or discussing time clock procedures with any clock operator.



Half Court Defense / Full Court Pressing / Ball Possession(s) o Any defense is permitted. o The defensive team must allow the player dribbling the ball to enter the front-court; they must stay back from the half court line by at least 2 feet. o Full court pressing is allowed as followed:  3rd and 4th grades – a full court press is allowed for the last 4 minutes of the 2nd half, there will be an official timeout (30 seconds) to prepare your team.  5th and 6th grades – a full court press is allowed for the entire 2 nd half.  7th and 8th grades – a full court press is allowed the entire game.  NOTE: A team that is up by more than 15 points is not allowed to full court press. (in any division). o All teams have 10 seconds to bring the ball across the time line (half court line). o Ball Possessions(s) – Alternate possession out of bounds apply by possession arrow Jump ball always starts the game and the possession arrow rule is followed at all other time(s) during the game.



Lane “Violations” o Five (5) seconds for 3rd & 4th grades. o Three (3) seconds for all other divisions.
