THE TRINITY HERALD
The mission of Trinity Church is to share the joy of God’s love with our community, our brothers and sisters in Christ.

THE RECTOR’S COLUMN: FAITH, HOPE & LOVE
I firmly believe that it is a healthy practice for any church to look beyond itself, to see what it can do for its community and for the world. It can also prove helpful for a church to set some goals to provide a renewed sense of purpose, something greater to achieve. I've been doing some thinking about both of these ideas lately, and I've come to the conclusion that one way Trinity might be able to achieve both is to organize a mission of some type perhaps to a place like Haiti? The Episcopal Diocese of Alabama has a companion relationship status with Haiti, and I am confident that there will not soon be a time when Haiti doesn't need any more help. Usually, missions to Haiti have come in two different flavors: either medical or construction. Medical missions typically involve setting up a clinic in order to treat various issues. Most of these issues are conditions which would probably startle us, in that we'd never allow anything simple to remain untreated for so long. Fielding a medical mission is complicated from the standpoint that they would obviously require doctors and nurses (and sometimes pharmacists, dentists, optometrists or ophthalmologists) to volunteer. Construction missions require a different skill‐set. The building requirements in a place like Haiti are drastically different from a place like the United States, as well as the availability of materials. Furthermore, there are opportunities to build objects of varying scale. For example, past construction missions have built chairs and benches for schools and others have actually built the schools themselves. The point is, construction missions don't require someone who is a contractor, but people who are handy with tools and inventive. I have no idea if there is significant interest within Trinity in tackling something of this magnitude, but I believe we should set this as a goal for the year 2012. I happen to know that we have plenty of talent at Trinity for either a medical or construction mission — and possibly even a combination of the two. Details such as when we would go, where we would go, and how we would pay for it haven't been decided. It is merely a proposal. What I am asking you is, How many of you would be willing to do this? I would also like to point out that I wouldn't expect this endeavor to be limited to Trinity Church. If you happen to be excited about this and know somebody else at another church who might also be excited about it, then please, by all means, recruit them! If I hear from enough people, we will set up an organizational meeting to begin making some plans.

Greetings to you from the Trinity Cursillo Community! We would like to invite you to be a part of our growing community. There are several ways for you to participate in Cursillo events. One, of course, is to attend the 4 day weekend. Cursillo weekends begin on Thursday evening and end on Sunday mid afternoon. Your participation in this weekend is of no cost to you, as those who have previously attended have sponsored your experience. And that is precisely what it is – an experience. It is also the reason why it is somewhat difficult for people who have already attended a Cursillo weekend to share their experiences, because they are unique and personal. Plus, there are wonderful surprises occurring throughout the weekend that none of us would like to spoil for you. Another way you can participate in the Cursillo Community is to join a “reunion group.” A reunion group is an outgrowth of the weekend, in order to help sustain spiritual growth on our daily journey. Trinity is fortunate to currently have three groups which meet at different times and places during the week. There is one for women at 7:00 am Wednesday’s at the home of Cecil Williamson, and there are two groups for men: one meeting at 10:00 am on Thursdays at Trinity and another at 6:00 am in Forkland. It is not a prerequisite of attending the weekend in order to join a reunion group. They are open to anyone who wants to be intentional about their spiritual journey. The schedule for the weekends for 2012 is listed below, for your convenience. Please see a member of the Cursillo Community for more information or an application. All applications need to be turned in at least 2 months before the weekend, but the sooner the better. CURSILLO WEEKENDS FOR 2012 • • • • •
