Winter has been different this year, but I am still ready for Spring It is can’t be long until the flowers start blooming and the lawns turn green. It is time to plan your spring class schedule. Learn the skills to make that special something for a wedding, baby or birthday gift. Make something to spruce up the house, whether for the dining room, living room or bedroom. Something new always makes me feel better. Our events are filling up quickly. A Viking educator will teach us about feet, stabilizer, hoops and more on March 20th. We will party and learn about different forms of embroidery during the hands on Party with Jessica from the Anita Goodesign Company on May 23 & 24. At this writing we only have a few openings left. Remember Quilters Quest Shop Hop is just around the corner. Starting Thurs, May 31, and continuing until Sun, June 3rd. This is our 10th anniversary and we are 11 shops strong. Stop in at any of the 11 shops to purchase your passport to fun, still only $5. The shops are Adirondack Quilts, Flying Geese Fabrics, Foofsique Quilting Emporium, Gloversville Sewing Center, The Joyful Quilter, K.C. Framing and Fabrics, Log Cabin Fabrics, Quiltbug, Pumpkin Patch, Style Fabrics and The Yardstick. Also put on your calendar the Floriani Stabilizer event coming up in August of this year. They are planning a whole new event with new products to show and explain. Hoopsisters Embroida-Block for 2012 The embroida-block for 2012 will be starting in April. It is called “Earth to Quilters” for the large wallhanging. But this year you can choose to do the smaller projects each of which has a small quilt or project you can choose. The optional border blocks will give you a 4 th quilt option and a 4th project. Plans are to start either April and meet every other month for 4 months. If you have a preference as to when to start and whether you would prefer to meet every other month or every month, please let me know. As in the last few years we will meet either on a Wednesday or Saturday from 10-12 or 13. The April dates are Wednesday the 25th, and Saturday the 28th and the cost is the same as last year, $110 if paid in full or $30 per month if paid by the month, and the optional border CD is $40. We are taking signups for April classes, since it will be here before you know it.

March – May 2012 NEW Class Learn to Sew Basics Wed, Mar 22 & Apr 19 10-12 or 6-8 With Mary Ann Beginner - $25 + supplies Have you always wanted to learn to sew? Now is your chance! Start from the beginning by learning how to thread the sewing machine, how to create stitches you need to make a garment. Learn where or when to use those stitches to sew for yourself. Bring your machine or use one of ours. If using one of ours let us know when you sign up for class. You will be working in a sampler book which comes with the fabric you need to create the stitches, for example, zipper insertion to creating hems. Sampler book required. In order to have the supplies needed for class please sign up as soon as possible. Machine Embroidered Applique Techniques – Classic Beauty Wed, Mar 21 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $20 + supplies This is a great class to learn the techniques used in doing machine applique with your embroidery machine. This class can be done with any make of embroidery machine able to make a 5” square or larger. The Smith Street Company has created the designs in many machine formats, there is sure to be one for your machine. Once you have learned the basics you can go one to make anything from a table runner to a queen sized quilt. Embroidery design CD required. Beginner Quilting (Irish Chain) Start to finish Wed, April 4, & 18 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $25 + supplies During the 2 weeks of class you will create a quilt. Irish Chain quilts are made up of squares and rectangles. If you already have done the Single Irish Chain, try the Double Irish Chain for a new challenge. The basics for planning, cutting, piecing, marking and quilting will be covered in this class. Join us for guidance through the whole process to complete your quilt ready to take home and enjoy. San Miguel Jacket Thurs, Apr 12 & 26 10-1 or 6-9 With Merilyn Beginner + - $30 + supplies A beautiful shawl collar that is easy to make combined with decorative piecing for the front band and cuffs make this jacket a great addition to any wardrobe. Make it from many fabrics or from a single beautiful fabric. Jacket is a ‘Box Style’ with a casual fit – the shoulders are fitted, sides are straight and the sleeves have a nice tailored look, but are a bit fuller for a comfortable fit. Jacket can be lined or unlined. Pattern required. Double Twist Table Runner Wed, May 2 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $18 + supplies Using the Lil’ Twister tool and a variety of charm square you can create an attractive runner. This table runner lends itself to a lot of variations. It could be a single or triple twist table runner. The little flange could also be placed flat as an inner border. Book Required. Machine Quilting 101 Fri, May 11 10-1 or 6-9 With Betsy Beginner - $30 + supplies There are always questions about the best way to machine quilt. Join Betsy to explore using the walking foot and free motion quilting. Learn to use your machine and correct feet to finish those unfinished project. Remember to get your supply list. Hunters Star Sat, May 19 10-1 With Betsy Intermediate-$20 + supplies Learn a totally new way to construct a Hunter's Star Quilt which was created by Deb Tucker. This method is designed to streamline the construction of the traditional Hunter's Star block. You will be learning the technique and can go on to make a quilt as large as you like. Betsy really enjoys this method.
