The Yardstick is hosting an Anita Goodesign trunk show starting Tuesday, January 25 . Come in and see samples of some of the newer embroidery design selections stitched out. It is always exciting to see what the designers have done with their designs.
Quilters Quest Shop Hop st
Registration starts Feb 1 for the 2011 Shop Hop. Stop in to purchase your passport and receive your shop hop bag. Preparations are underway for this year’s quilt and theme. We will be 11 th nd shops strong this year with a new shop joining our ranks. Make your plans for May 19 – 22 .
Penny Haren Penny Haren, a quilter for more than 20 years, has been developing teaching techniques that make it quick, easy and fun for quilters- even beginners- to create intricate blocks with stunning results. Her technique, Pieced appliqué eliminates inset points and curves from even the most
complicated blocks. She has also designed the Square It Up and Fussy Cut rulers for Creative Grids that help save time and make quilting even easier. She is the author of the th books titled Pieced Appliqué. We are excited to have her present her favorite class on March 9 at the Best Western in Cobleskill. The class titled Back to Basics is a 6 Hour Class. This “Hints from Heloise” type of class will teach you all of the tricks that the experts have been using for years – and some Penny has developed herself. In class, the blocks will be precut so you can start sewing immediately. Learn how to make all the blocks in the Pieced Applique series. th
Class is will be held at The Best Western on Wednesday, March 9 from 9-4 in the ballroom. This is a hands-on class. The price of the class will include the book, class kit (pre-cut fabric for all of the blocks, templates, etc.) and lunch. The fee for all the fun will be $95 up until February th th 15 and $120 after the 15 of February. Register early to reserve you place at this exciting seminar. You will learn sew much whether a seasoned quilter or getting ready to make your first quilt.
Janie Lantz Janie Lantz is an Embroidery and Quilting Software Specialist. With over 50 years sewing experience including Garment construction, Home Dec and sew much more. Janie lives in Emerson, Iowa and will be traveling to New York to present an exciting Sew Embellished Seminar th on Saturday, April 16 at The Holiday Inn Express just off I88 exit 23 near Schoharie. The demonstrations will include a trunk show, old and new machine feet and how to use them, what stabilizers to use and where to use them. There will be demos on 5D software and if time allows 4D Quilt Design Creator and how you can create quilting designs for your embroidery machine. Barbara Moore presents “Home Dec for Everyone” Barbara Moore has been teaching for over 20 years, a freelance educator from Northern Mississippi specializes in Home Dec, Heirloom Sewing, and overlock machines (sergers). She will be presenting a seminar on Home Dec sewing for the home hosted by The Yardstick on June 7th, 2011 at The Best Western in Cobleskill. Some of you may remember attending a seminar presented by Barbara in the Cobleskill Methodist church several years ago. In her program Barbara will be presenting a lecture demo that will showcase machine feet used to create Home Dec projects. She will show window treatments, tablescapes, pillows and more. Demos will include variety of other feet, notions, sergers and software. More information will be available as we get closer to the event.

Veranda Tote Tues, Jan 25 10-2 With Barbara Beginner - $ 18 + supplies Using the fabric line, Totes on Bolts you can create a one-of-a-kind tote. The fabric panels are made so you can choose which fabric you want to put in a particular spot. This is a very scrappy bag! If you cut the entire bag out along with the lining, the remaining scraps will be enough to cut all the pieces needed for the pieced side panels. TNT Embroidablock Quilt (designed by Hoopsisters) With Merilyn Beginner - $10 per month Once a Month on a Wed or Sat 10-12 or 1-3 The classes are in full swing. We will be stitching block #6 in February. The fabric choices are great. We will be starting a new quilt in September called Goose Tracks. The quilt blocks are pieced in the hoop, embroidered in the hoop and finally quilted in the hoop. The TNT stands for texture and techniques. Each month you learn new techniques and create a new block for the quilt. Techniques include traputo, tucks, candlewicking, and texture from ribbon, rick rack or folded fabric which creates an attractive quilt. The quilt can be created either with 5" blocks or 8" blocks and has an option of adding an additional border. Each block is repeated 4 times and is located in 4 different spots in the quilt to create the pattern.
