Transcribed Letter from Noyes Latham Avery1 (1815-1901) to his son John Morgan Avery2 (1847-1873) Postmarked Grand Rapids MI, March 30, 1863 No. 111 John M. Avery Aurora Cayuga Co. NY Grand Rapids Mch 30/63 My Dear Boy Your Mother rec’d your letter on Friday. We have thought you were so anxious to come home & we are all anxious to see you - that instead of your spending your vacation in Rochester you had better spend it at home. I enclose you $10, with what you have you will have enough to buy you a hat in Rochester and some present for Fred3. He will expect you to bring him something. You can stop at your Uncle Freds4 one or two days – on your way home. When you leave Rochester for home you had better take the Night Train & that will bring you home in the afternoon of the next day. You had better pack all of your things & bring them home as you must have many things you will not need if you go back. If you have not made your visit at Farmer you had better do so before you come home – while over the Lake near down to your Uncle H[ ]5. Give my love to them all. You will get your Bill of Mr. P[ ]6 so I can send him the money. Mother7 & Fred3 are both very well. I have a severe head ache today. Nothing new at the [Ross’ds]. Give my love to all friends that enquire at Aurora. We all send love to you. From Father

P.S You will please hand the enclosed line to Cz [cousin] Edwin8 N.L.A
