VISION STATEMENT BY WERENGO Delivered by Richard Quayson Date: 19th November 2015 Venue: Kingstel Hotel, Takoradi -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------I congratulate the National Development Planning Commission (NDPC) for organising this forum and providing the opportunity to present the vision statement on behalf of all the NGOs in the region. This 40-year plan, which would ensure that current and successive governments roll out development programmes based on its content rather than what their political party’s interest may prescribe, is a step in the right direction. From the perspective of NGOs, a national plan must encapsulate the following; 1. Create structures and mechanisms for coordinating, monitoring and evaluating development programmes by NGOs. This would strengthen social accountability mechanisms to increase transparency and sustainability of Ghana’s natural resources for generations yet unborn. 2. Establish a legal framework and a continuing enabling environment for NGOs to continue to assist vulnerable groups and societies through active engagement and participation of CSOs in development agenda. 3. There should be a back-and-forth interplay between academia and industry to take advantage of the teeming mass of unemployed graduates. Massive investment is needed in training and retraining of human capital to equip the citizenry with technical skills for gainful employment.
