1 VISION STATEMENT BY THE GHANA FEDERATION OF THE DISABLED – WESTERN REGION Delivered by Nathaniel Quayson Date: 19th November 2015 Venue: Kingstel Hotel, Takoradi -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------With a population of about 24 million, Ghana has a population with disabilities of about 15-20 percent, according to the 2010 Population and Housing Census. In a developing country like ours, disabled persons constitute an impoverished, marginalised group, characterised by lack of access to public health, education and other social services. Economically as well as in social terms, disabled persons in developing countries are classified among the poorest of the poor. It is in this regard that the Ghana Federation of the Disabled in the Western Region makes the following proposition for consideration in the Long-Term National Development Plan: That we develop the capacities and capabilities of person with disability through skills training and formal education to enable persons with disability to make a significant contribution towards nation building. Thank you.
