1 VISION STATEMENT FROM THE SEKONDI SCHOOL FOR THE DEAF Date: 19th November 2015 Venue: Kingstel Hotel, Takoradi -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------VISION STATEMENT To increase access to quality education and training of children with deafness to acquire employable skills for economic and independent living. Rationale: 1. Most deaf children have been denied admission to schools as a result of limited infrastructural facilities and lack of awareness on the part of parents with deaf children. 2. The academic standard of deaf students is below average because of poor communication skills in the effective use of the sign language in the delivery of lessons. 3. Quality education is a prerequisite for improving academic standards and the acquisition of employable skills. 4. To ensure that teachers who have empathy for the deaf-child are posted to teach in the school. 5. To ensure that in-service training for teachers is vigorously pursued. 6. To organise workshops for both teachers and parents on the effective use of the sign language. 7. To ensure effective supervision in all departments in the school. 8. To infuse information and communication technology into the school curriculum. 9. To maintain a good relationship with the staff and other stakeholders in order to maximise efficiency in the achievement of the vision. Expected Outcomes 1. Existing facilities in the school expanded and enrolment increased. 2. The public will be aware of the existence of the school and more parents with deaf children will send them to school. 3. Teachers will improve their teaching skills for effective teaching. 4. Supervision will be more purposeful and regular to ensure effective use of instructional time and other available resources. 5. Most students who pass out of the school will be computer literate. 6. Academic performance of the school will be improved. 7. Students at the Vocational Department will acquire employable skills for independent living.
