Today's Game Gettysburg makes its season debut with a nonconference match up with DeSales today. All-Time Series Gettysburg won its only prior meeting with DeSales 5-1 last fall. Last Meeting In the first-ever meeting between the two programs, Gettysburg posted a 5-1 decision at DeSales. The Bulldogs opened with the game's first goal, but the Bullets countered with two goals before the end of the first frame. Samantha Wright ’17 posted the first tally and Lindsay Kraus ’18 the second to give Gettysburg a 2-1 edge at the break. Kathryn Hardman ’17 scored a pair of quick goals just three minutes apart in the second stanza and Casey Eck ’18 polished off the scoring in the 57th minute. Hannah Fitzgerald ’17 assisted on each of Gettysburg's final three tallies. Last Time Out The Bullets ended 2015 on a high note with a 5-4 decision at Johns Hopkins. Four goals were scored in the opening 10 minutes with the Blue Jays netting the first two and Gettysburg answering right back. The Bullets rode the momentum with the first two scores of the second half before Johns Hopkins came back to tie the game. Hannah Fitzgerald ’17 provided the game-winner on a penalty stroke with 10 seconds left. Haley Mowery ’18 turned in 17 saves in the win. Frank. & Marsh. Let's Get It Started! Gettysburg has won its season opener in each of the last five seasons and 10 of the last 11 overall. Each of the last two season-opening wins over York (5-4) and Eastern Mennonite (4-3) have come by one goal. Leading the Way Gettysburg's three senior captains are Nina Diamond, Kathryn Hardman, and Samantha Wright. Diamond is heading into her third season as a starter on defense and has tallied five career defensive saves. Hardman and Wright are coming off career years on the attack. Hardman poured in 15 points in her first year as a starter last fall, while Wright, who is in her third year as a starter, finished second on the team with 22 points. Helping Hand Senior Hannah Fitzgerald enters her final campaign eight assists shy of the program's all-time record. Fitzgerald tied her personal best with seven helpers last fall and has 18 heading into 2016. Becky Griffith ’98 is Gettysburg's all-time assists leader with 26. Scouting DeSales... • DeSales defeated Moravian 2-0 on Thursday. Chelsea DeFrancisco scored the team's first goal in the 13th minute and Andrea Baldus added some insurance in the 59th minute. DeFrancisco is the team's top returning scorer from a year ago when she posted 17 points on the way to secondteam all-conference status.
