Game Notes OPENING TIP After winning their Centennial Conference openers back on Nov. 22, Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins break their eight-day layoff with a CC tilt this evening. ALL-TIME SERIES The Bullets lead the Blue Jays 51-35 in the all-time series that dates back to 1920. Johns Hopkins has won four of the last five meetings over the last two seasons. LAST YEAR VS. JOHNS HOPKINS Gettysburg and Johns Hopkins split their season series last year, with each team winning on its home court. In the first meeting, Cody Kiefer scored a career-high 34 points to lead the Bullets to an 83-70 victory here in Bream Gym. Kiefer, who shot 11-for15 and 5-for-8 from 3-point range, also grabbed 10 rebounds to pick up a double-double. Kyle Doran led the Blue Jays with 20 points. In the grudge match, Johns Hopkins jumped to a 19-6 lead to start the game en route to a 68-48 win in Baltimore. Gene Williams (18 points) and Sam Gordon (12 points, 15 rebounds) led the Blue Jays while Alex Kaslander paced Gettysburg with 12 points. LAST TIME OUT Senior guard Pete Christ knocked down a 3-pointer with four seconds left and the Bullets won their Centennial Conference opener in dramatic fashion, upsetting then-No. 23 Franklin & Marshall on the road, 57-54, last Tuesday. A strong defensive effort and a balanced offense paced Gettysburg, which earned its first win over Franklin & Marshall at the Mayser Center since the 2009 Centennial Conference Championship game. The Bullets never trailed after outscoring the Diplomats 19-5 to start the game and held F&M to 34.0 percent shooting, including 25.0 percent (4-for-16) from 3-point range. Although no Bullet scored more than 10 points, eight players found their way into the scoring column, with senior center Tanner Kirkpatrick, freshman guard Danny Duffey, and
senior center Mlynue Reeves netting 10 points apiece. Reeves also posted career-highs of eight rebounds and four blocked shots. SHARP SHOOTER Senior guard Pete Christ currently ranks fourth in the Centennial Conference in 3-point field-goal percentage, connecting on 52.2 percent (12for-23) of his shots from beyond the arc. For his career, Christ ranks eighth all-time at Gettysburg in 3-pointers made (126). TOUGH “D” Through their first four games this season, the Bullets are yielding just 64.0 points per game - a mark that currently leads the Centennial Conference. They are also tops in the conference in 3-point field-goal percentage defense (25.4 percent). SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS Johns Hopkins shot 56.9 percent from the floor as it rolled to an 84-52 CC victory over McDaniel last Tuesday in Baltimore. Three players scored in double figures for the Blue Jays, who jumped out to a 44-22 halftime lead. Senior Ryan Curran led the way with 16 points and seven rebounds while graduate student Sam Gordon and sophomore Michael Gardner added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Gordon (13.8 ppg) and Curran (13.3 ppg) have been the team’s leading scorers in the early going while Gordon has also contributed 8.8 rebounds per night - a mark that ranks second among the conference leaders. Like Gettysburg, Johns Hopkins has made its mark as a tough defensive squad and ranks second in the conference behind the Bullets in scoring defense, allowing just 64.3 points per game.
