Friday 9th September 2016 (w/c 12.09.16) http://www.whiteheath-inf.hillingdon.sch.uk Message from our Co-Headteachers Welcome back to a new academic year, it has been lovely to see all the children coming in and hearing about your Summer Holidays. We have had some work going on in the holiday and we are delighted with the changes.
In year 1 you will see new teaching walls with touch TV screens for our teachers to teach from and children to learn. This has generated more space in each classroom and children have better access to all the equipment they need. We have also put new chairs into year 1 which has made a huge difference. A big thank you to WISA for their contribution towards this, it would have been impossible without their support and your giving! We also have a new touch screen TV in our Nursery to add to the suite of computers already in there. In the welcome/ reception area, hall and corridors we have new tiles and lighting systems, which we plan to extend across the school until we have replaced all the old tiles. We are so grateful to Mrs Bradbury and Mrs Haddow for giving up some much of their summer holiday to start the painting on the back wall, the background is there with the detail to be added, but the colour and design makes the playground so much more welcoming. Coopers Estate agents have donated the money to have the wall skimmed and ready to paint and Homeflair gave us 50% discount on paint which is very generous of both companies. We have added a brand new gate and entry system into Nursery and in preparation for our After School Club – Energy Kidz we have put new doors and entry system on our mobiles so the collection of your children can be much easier.
Lastly we would like to offer our congratulations to Miss Vyas who was married over the holidays and will now use her married name Mrs Vyas, shouldn’t be too difficult for the children or us to remember! Please do remember that if you have a concern or would like to talk with your class teacher you can always make an appointment. Mrs Wade our Assistant Head is out of class and is able to help with your questions as well. The Co-Headship continues to be a real success at Whiteheath and we share the week between us; Mrs Blake works Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and Ms Weaving works Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

Parent Forum- September 2016 We will be having our first meeting of this academic year on Friday 16th September at 9 a.m. – straight after you have dropped your children to their class. On this first meeting we will invite all interested parents to a meeting in the school hall. We will explain the role of the forum and ask for 1 or 2 parents from each class to represent their parents. What is a Parent Forum? Our Forum was set up for, and run with parents to represent Parents views Provides an independent voice in schools Enables school to gain better understanding of views and needs of parents Opportunity for school to take advantage of ideas and skills parents have to offer Provides a body which can easily be consulted by school’s decision makers Can inform and support the decision making process within school The key component in a successful parent’s forum is active participation from parents / carers. To do this we need representatives to canvass and express the views of all parents / carers and share these at forum meetings. There will be 1 meeting each term Since
we started we have looked at the following issues:Parking – which resulted in our zebra crossing Sea-side visit Homework Ofsted website Nursery Uniform School reports
Please come along for 30 minutes. We will be asking for your views on the new After School Club.

YEAR 1 Welcome back to the new school year. To start the year off our new topic will be ‘Caring’. We will begin with caring for pets and animals. In English we will be focussing on the story of ‘Penny and Pup’ and retelling the story in our own words. In maths we will be focussing on one more and less and sequencing numbers. We will also be learning about animals and their babies and learning the correct names. Please note that our PE days will be Tuesdays and Thursdays. The children should have a named PE kit, including trainers. Those children with long hair should have it tied back and earrings should be removed or taped up. Library days are Tuesday and reading books will be changed on a Friday. If you have arranged for anyone else to collect your child from school, please ensure that you put this in writing telling us their name and a contact number for them so that we can make sure that our information is up to date. Many thanks.
YEAR 2 Our topic for this term is Over the Drawbridge (Knights and Castles). This week our English learning will be based on the book ‘Good Knight Sleep Tight’. We will be describing and writing about the characters in the story. Our focus will be on adjectives, punctuation and conjunctives. Home reading books will continue to be changed on a Friday. In maths our focus is on place value, odds and evens and 2D shapes. In history we will be introducing the topic ‘Over the Drawbridge’ and learning about the development of castles, beginning with hill forts. In art we will be line drawing castle people. PE days are Monday and Friday. Your child must have a named PE kit, long hair must be tied back and earrings must be removed or taped over. Library day will be on a Monday. Please ensure that your child’s book is returned in order for us to issue a new one. Please ensure all your child's uniform, book bags, water bottles, coats, hats etc. are named so that we can ensure they can get back to the right owner if they have been misplaced. Many thanks for you cooperation.
