Important information: Staff News It is with deep sadness that we share with you the loss of one of our long serving members of staff. Mrs Jenny Murphy passed away very suddenly yesterday. She has been a part of the Whiteheath family for many years, as a parent, one of our team of SMSA’s and a Teaching Assistant. Mrs Murphy started working at Whiteheath in 2005 and was a very caring member of staff who loved her work and the children in her charge. We have not told the children of our sad loss and ask for your assistance in telling your child/children during the holidays. This year Mrs Murphy worked in our Swallows as a SMSA, she will be greatly missed throughout the whole school. Our thoughts are with her family at this sad time.

CLASS NEWS NURSERY Next term our new topic is ‘Nursery Rhymes’. In our first week we will be focussing on ‘Incy Wincy Spider’. In art the children will be creating ‘pom-pom’ spiders and in maths we will be counting different amounts of spiders on webs. In literacy we will be matching different rhyming words using our ‘rhyming houses’ game. In phonics we will be looking at Aspect 5 – Alliteration. Please note: Soft start will commence on Friday 22nd January and will continue on Fridays until half term. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
RECEPTION Next term in Reception, our new Topic will be 'Once upon a time...' We will be learning about different Fairy Tales. In literacy, children will be writing a letter to Goldilocks. In maths, the children will be sequencing their day and in phonics, the children will be learning:
or, ur, ow and ar. Children have been given their challenge books to complete over the Christmas holidays. Please support them with this. We hope that you have a lovely Christmas and New Year.
YEAR 1 We hope that you all have a fantastic holiday and we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday 5th January 2016. For the first week back after the holidays in English we are going to plan and write a recount of one day during the holidays.
In maths we are looking at money and using coins to make up an amount of money. In science we are going to look at the signs of winter and writing about why we love winter. Please remember to bring back your PE kit and check that your children's trainers fit. Please also check that all of your clothing is named.
YEAR 2 Thank you all for your very generous gifts. We have all had a fantastic start to the school year, and we are looking forwards to the spring term and our new topic, Change. We would like to thank you in advance for your continued support, particularly with the maths sheet that the children have taken home. If your child finds a calculation challenging, please encourage them to have a go at the same calculation type, using different numbers. We are not changing reading books this week, so please make sure that your child finishes them over the holidays! In the meantime, we encourage children to continue to read any books they have access to at home, focussing on comprehension questions from our ‘Reading at Home guide pack’. In our first week back, we will be writing a recount about our winter holidays, and starting our new science topic about materials and their properties. In maths, we will be revising addition and subtraction, as well as introducing fractions. Please make sure that PE kits are washed and returned in the first week – making sure that all tracksuits, plimsolls and trainers still fit! The Year 2 team wish you a Merry Christmas and best wishes for a happy and healthy 2016!
