Winter 2018- Meeting #9

 OPENING THE DISCUSSION -Book Discussion: “Befriend” Scott Sauls -Chapter 6- “Befriend the Shamed and Ashamed” -Summary of chapter- “Shame is a powerful voice that leads us to believe wrong things about God, ourselves, and others. When the voice of Jesus is “turned up louder” than the voice of shame, we grow more humble and gracious, and we start to catch others doing good.” pg.51 -What was your “ONE THING” from Chapter 6?

(One thing you learned or liked, were challenged by, questioned, disagreed with, stood out, etc.)

 DIGGING DEEPER 1) How can shame shape the way we think about God, others, and ourselves? 2) Read: Psalm 42:8-11- How does the Psalmist encourage his downcast soul? 3) Read: Romans 8:1-2, 31-39- How do these truths speak to our shame? 4) What are some practical ways we can “turn up the volume” on the voice of Jesus that assures us that we are loved and that we belong? What Scriptures might be used?

 MAKING APPLICATIONS -How does all of this stir the affections of your heart for Christ? -What is your take-a-way or truth to apply?
