YES Announcements November 30, 2017 The mission of Yorktown Elementary, working in partnership with all stakeholders, is to educate all students in order to achieve personal and academic excellence in an ever-changing world.
New Announcements: NWEA Testing – The testing window begins Monday, December 4th. Teachers will send home their individual classroom testing schedule in their weekly newsletter. Tiger PAWS Meeting – The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 4th at 3:30 in the YES Library. Holiday Night Out (HNO) – HNO will take place on Friday, December 8th from 6:30 to 8:30. Christmas classic movies will be featured and student will have the opportunity to create their own ornament. Further details and prices are attached. Tiger PAWS: Cookies with Santa – This event is scheduled for Friday, December 1st from 5:30 to 7:30. Flyers were sent out last week. This event is free to attend but parents must accompany the child. Tiger PAWS: My Girl Gala Committee Meeting – Anyone interested in helping out with the gala may attend. The meeting is scheduled for Monday, December 11th from 6-7:00pm in the YES library. YES Candy Cane Lane (Holiday Shop) – Students are invited to secretly shop for their loved ones at the annual winter holiday shop. This will be the first year that YES will self-fund the shopping experience with control over what is presented and sold. A personalization station will be available for select items so students can make their gifts special for loved ones. Information and preview days will be coming soon. Student shopping days will be December 12th-14th. Breakfast with Santa – The Muncie Elks Country Club is hosting the breakfast on December 16th. Attached are further details. Previously Noted/Important Information: Lost & Found – Numerous jackets, hats, shirts, etc. are overflowing in the lost and found bin. Students have been instructed to check the bin for missing items. If you are unable to locate your child’s coat etc. please feel free to come in and look over the items. The office is open 7:30 to 3:30. Any items remaining after the winter break will be donated to Goodwill. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Lucas Oil Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Box Tops – The next collection date is Thursday, December 21st. Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed
information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file.
