YES Announcements December 14, 2017 The mission of Yorktown Elementary, working in partnership with all stakeholders, is to educate all students in order to achieve personal and academic excellence in an ever-changing world. Yorktown Community Schools will be on holiday break from 12/25/17 through 1/5/18. Classes will begin again on 1/8/18.
New Announcements: Club Meeting Cancellation – There will be no club meetings next Wednesday, December 20th. Cardinal Kids Club – Ball State University Athletics has an opportunity for elementary students to be part of Cardinals Kids Club. Please see the attached flyer for further details. If you have questions, please contact Shawn Sullivan directly. Elks Hoop Shoot – Congratulations to all of the students who participated and advanced in the Elks Hoop Shoot. We are very proud of all of our students that participated. The following students advanced this past Saturday to the next level to be held in January: Ryan Burkholder, Connor Rowray, Derek Crabtree, Alexis Fields, and Madelyn Cabrera. Yorktown Luminary Coloring Contest Results – The contest results are in and we have the winners: Lola Hoose from 3rd grade, Makayla Orcutt from 4th grade, and Abby Booher from 5th grade. Each winner received a ribbon and a candy cane filled with chocolate. The grand prize winner was Karla Cabrera from 5 th grade who received a gift card and ribbon. Congratulations to all of our winners. Classroom Holiday Parties/Ugly Sweater – Parties will take place Friday, December 22nd and students/staff are encouraged to wear ugly sweaters. Teachers will make your student aware of the time. Box Top Collection – The next collection date is Thursday, December 21st. Please be mindful of expiration dates.
Previously Noted/Important Information: Texas Roadhouse – While you are holiday shopping, be sure to print the flyer (from 12/7/17 announcements) and give it to your server on Thursday, December 21st from 11:00am-10:00pm so that YES may benefit from your lunch with a 10% donation. Two flyers are provided to share with neighbors, co-workers, friends, and/or family members. Please note that flyers must be in hand for all carryout or dine in orders. Class Composites – There are a few pictures of each class available for sale in the office for $12.00. Checks may be made out to YES-Yorktown Elementary School. First come, first serve. New Clubs Begin – F3-5th grade, Student Council-4th grade, and Literature Club-3rd grade met and will continue to meet on Wednesdays. Do you ever wonder if you have the right date and/or time of a YES event correct? The YES website, under the calendar, is a wonderful tool to make sure you have all those crucial dates and times correct.
Breakfast with Santa – The Muncie Elks Country Club is hosting the breakfast on December 16th. Further details can be found under the 11/30/17 weekly announcement attachment. Lost & Found – Numerous jackets, hats, shirts, etc. are overflowing in the lost and found bin. Students have been instructed to check the bin for missing items. If you are unable to locate your child’s coat etc. please feel free to come in and look over the items. The office is open 7:30 to 3:30. Any items remaining after the winter break will be donated to Goodwill. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Bankers Life Fieldhouse Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Please see the attached form for more details. Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file.
