YES Announcements December 21, 2017 The mission of Yorktown Elementary, working in partnership with all stakeholders, is to educate all students in order to achieve personal and academic excellence in an ever-changing world.
Yorktown Community Schools will be on holiday break from 12/25/17 through 1/5/18. Classes will begin again on 1/8/18.
New Announcements: Classroom Holiday Parties/Ugly Sweater – Parties will take place Friday, December 22nd and students/staff are encouraged to wear ugly sweaters. Teachers will make your student aware of the party time. STEAM Family Science Night – Tuesday, January 30th from 6-8:00pm is the next scheduled science night. Save that date for fun with the entire family in a learning environment. This is a free event for YES students and family. Science Fair – The Science Fair will be held on Tuesday, January 30th and registration forms are due to Mrs. Jackson by Friday, January 12th. There will be prizes involved and the top 3 projects from each grade will get to show off their projects at the Regional Science Fair at Ball State University. Students have access to pick up a registration packet during school hours and a copy of the packet has been attached for your convenience. Spirit Wear – Spirit wear will be available for sale beginning in January. A power point presentation has been attached for you to look at the various items. Questions should be directed to
[email protected] Previously Noted/Important Information: Lost & Found – Numerous jackets, hats, shirts, etc. are overflowing in the lost and found bin. Students have been instructed to check the bin for missing items. If you are unable to locate your child’s coat etc. please feel free to come in and look over the items. The office is open 7:30 to 3:30. Any items remaining after the winter break will be donated to Goodwill. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Bankers Life Fieldhouse Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Please refer to the announcements of 12/7/17 for further details. Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file.
