YES Announcements November 16, 2017 The mission of Yorktown Elementary, working in partnership with all stakeholders, is to educate all students in order to achieve personal and academic excellence in an ever-changing world. Thanksgiving break begins Wednesday, November 22nd thru Friday, November 24th. Due to the holiday break, the Weekly Announcements will resume the following week. New Announcements: Tiger PAWS PTO My Girl Gala Planning Committee – The next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 20th from 4:00 to 5:00pm in the YES library. Tiger PAWS PTO-Fall Carnival – Be sure to attend the carnival scheduled for Saturday, November 18th from 12:00 to 4:00 in the YMS gym. There will be food, fun, games, and fantastic raffle prizes. Any student who donated items to the carnival will automatically be entered for the raffle prizes. Lost & Found – Numerous jackets, hats, shirts, etc. are overflowing in the lost and found bin. Students have been instructed to check the bin for missing items. If you are unable to locate your child’s coat etc. please feel free to come in and look over the items. The office is open 7:30 to 3:30. Club Sign-Ups – It’s that time again to sign up for the following clubs: - 3rd grade Literature Club - 4th grade Student Council - 5th grade F3 Attached is the information and dates for the clubs as well as the permission slip. Students also can pick up the packets in the office. Cookies with Santa – The Tiger PAWS PTO will sponsor Cookies with Santa on Friday, December 1st from 6:00 to 8:00 PM in the YES gym. More information will be available closer to the event.
Previously Noted/Important Information: Spell Bowl – Student team members will be competing in the regional spell bowl on Thursday, November 16 th from 5-7:00pm at Pendleton Elementary School. Tiger PAWS (PTO) Sponsored Pacers/Lucas Oil Family Night – Family and friends are invited to the Pacers vs. Atlanta Hawks basketball game on Friday, February 23rd, 2018. Please see the attached flyer for more details. Box Tops – The next collection date is Thursday, November 30th. Background Check Policy – Yorktown Community Schools has a new background check policy for any family member that would like to attend a field trip or volunteer at school as of 2016. Volunteers are required to complete an expanded criminal history check, complete mandatory bullying prevention training, and complete the volunteer agreement and waiver. All background checks are good for 3 years across the district and are conducted by Safe Hiring Solutions, LLC. Please visit www.yorktown.k12.in.us/volunteer for all needed information. Parents may eat lunch with their child or bring in birthday treats as a “guest” without a background check on file.
