Right now it’s important to discuss working with a publisher. Before working with someone, we must first create a plan of action.
Our First Deliverable: Firstly, we must create a rough outline for our main product. You could be hired from various freelance sites to work on their projects and get paid by completing various tasks, or perhaps you could get hired by a client individually. When you send in your rough outline it can be in any format of your choice. A pdf works fine, or a picture of your mind map or something similar. It’s worth noting that sometimes clients may find it difficult to understand your mind map so it would be wise to have an editable version. A very important thing to remember when you send your deliverable is to listen to any feedback from your client, make sure you are heading in the right direction with the work.

Publishers and your book outline:
There are a few phases involved in this process, when sending your outline to publishers. Publishers will have different expectations when receiving your book outline, sometimes they will want to see it during phase one which is usually a very early phase, or phase two which is much later down the road. • Phase 1 – usually just the main table of contents, very broad in scope. • Phase 2 – usually much deeper, would include titles, phrases, references

The Two Way Street: It’s important to communicate with the publisher, especially if they are working on a direct-marketing type product, because you can talk about any bonuses that would add more value to the finished product. You always want to create things which give extra value. There could be parts of your mind map, which eventually can be discarded but it’s possible to use those ideas and create bonuses, to add to the perceived value. This is where your marketing skills will come in handy because it’s possible to produce things like upsells which could raise the value of the product dramatically.
Creating a great Funnel:

A funnel is very important thing to understand, not just because of bonuses and upsell creation but also providing your publisher with all the tools necessary to sell the products that we make. It raises your value as a writer, because many other writers do not take their time learning and providing these tools to publishers. By learning these, it’s possible to start getting jobs which pay much more than standard 4 cents a word gigs.
By focusing on tasks that are set out for you by the publisher, it would be a great idea to start dissecting their funnels and noting down anything that looks noteworthy or something you could learn. If you feel confident, you can also start providing the publisher with your own ideas for the funnel.

The Hook:
For any product that exists in the “upsell tree” (bonuses etc.) has to have a hook behind it. You will need to understand what the main selling point of the product is, whether it’s an upsell or a bonus, and you will have to integrate this into your mind map. The big hook can be anything that would drive a customer to purchase it. A good example of this would be something like “learn how to lose weight whilst sleeping” or “learn how to lose weight whilst at work” if your book is focused on the diet niche. Adding this will make your book exiting and different.

The End Process: Whatever your process is, whether you are sending off an outline to a publisher, or your outline to a client who you are ghostwriting for, there will most likely be two outcomes. They will either approve it or they will specify any specific content or change that needs to be included in the final draft. Using our process, the outlines will usually be much deeper and will contain much more value. Sometimes, the client may even raise your rate, based on the research that was conducted, which will help you with your income.
