THIS WEEK: BACK TO CONFERENCE PLAY
Colgate will resume conference play following a weekend off as the Raiders travel to Rensselaer and Union. They will not play a non-conference game for the rest of the season after the series with Sacred Heart during the second week of January. The Engineers started to get their season back on track, but have win only one game in its last six games. They earned a 1-1 tie with No. 4 Quinnipiac on Friday night, but then fell to Princeton, 4-1, on Saturday. Union continues to be ranked nationally with a 10-7-4 record. However, the Dutchmen have slipped in the rankings recently with a 2-4-1 record in their last seven games. Last weekend, they split their two games with a 3-2 win at Princeton and then a 3-2 loss at Quinnipiac.
NEXT TIME OUT: HOME MATCHUPS AGAINST BROWN AND YALE
The Raiders will be back on the ice at Starr Rink on Jan. 25 and 26 with Ivy League foes Brown and Yale coming to Hamilton. The game against Brown on Friday night will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports in Central New York. The Bears and Bulldogs are the last two ECAC Hockey teams that the Raiders will not have played going into the weekend. Brown faces Dartmouth and Harvard at home on Friday and Saturday and the Bears have won three games in their last four matchups. Yale is inching up the national rankings with four wins in its last six and is unbeaten in the last three contests.
LAST TIME OUT: RAIDERS MAKE IT FIVE IN A ROW
In the final non-conference weekend of the year, the Raiders outscored Sacred Heart, 15-2, in the two games, including a 9-0 win on Saturday night. Joe Wilson, Daniel Gentzler and Kyle Baun each scored three goals and Robbie Bourdon added five points during the weekend on a goal and four helpers. Colgate had nine players score goals during the weekend and Eric Mihalik earned his third careeer shutout TALE OF THE TAPE and first this season. The Raiders scored two of the 15 GATE RPI goals on the power play and saw Wilson score a short3.60.......................Scoring Offense........................ 2.48 handed goal.

3-TIME ECAC HOCKEY REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPION • 4 NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES
HEAD COACH DON VAUGHAN 20th Season St. Lawrence ’84
Don Vaughan enters his 20th year as head coach at Colgate and has the most wins in program history. He enters this season with a career record of 313-311-71. Under Vaughan’s tutelage, Colgate has enjoyed four 20-win seasons, two NCAA tournament berths, and 18 appearances in the ECAC Hockey tournament. Additionally, he has guided the Raiders to seven ECAC semifinal clashes, including his last in the 2011-12 campaign. The 2000 ECAC Coach of the Year has mentored four Hobey Baker Award finalists, five All-Americans, two ECAC Players of the Year, an ECAC Goaltender of the Year, two ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I honorees, three ECAC Merit Medal recipients, a Hockey Humanitarian Award winner and 42 All-ECAC Hockey selections. In addition to his commitment to success on the ice, Vaughan has continually demonstrated his commitment to the success of his student-athletes in the classroom. During his tenure, Vaughan has graduated 99 percent of his players. Since the creation of the award in 2000, Vaughan’s athletes have been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team over 50 times. Last season, the Raiders were ranked for most of the season and achieved its highest ranking since 1999-2000 after being ranked seventh in the USA Today/ USA Hockey Magazine National Poll in December. Under Vaughan’s tutelage, Austin Smith led the nation in goals with 36 and was named an All-American and the first Colgate player to be named a Hobey Hat Trick Finalist. He was the second ECAC Hockey Player of the Year under Vaughan and was a first team all-league selection. In 2010-11, Vaughan guided the Raiders to their fifth appearance in the ECAC Hockey semifinals. In the process, Colgate won back-to-back series against nationallyranked Rensselaer and Union. The previous season (2009-10), the Raiders finished in the top-4 in the league with a 12-8-2 mark and a 15-15-6 record overall. During his career in hockey, Vaughan probably never witnessed anything like how the 2008-09 season went down. Despite finishing 12-18-7, Vaughan’s Raiders posted a national record 19 overtime periods, shattering the former record of 16 set the previous season by Minnesota. Colgate finished the season with sevenconsecutive overtime games. In all, 25 of the 37 games were determined by one goal or fewer and one could make a case for 27
l since two games would have ended with a one goal difference if not for a late empty net score. Colgate’s highlights included a 1-0 road upset of then #19 Dartmouth on Valentine’s Day at Thompson Arena; a 3-2 overtime victory over #11 and ECAC champion Yale in the final regular season game on ESPNU and a pair of ties versus arch rival Cornell. Vaughan also watched junior David McIntyre post a break out season en route to garnering first team AHCA/Reebok All-American honors, as well as all-College Hockey News accolades. McIntyre, who went on to gain first team all-league mention, was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award. In his 15th season, Vaughan guided the Raiders to an 18-18-6 record and a spot in the ECAC semifinals. On February 16, 2008, he became the school’s all-time winningest coach in the program as Colgate blanked Union 8-0. The Raiders enjoyed success during the campaign, among which included upsetting nationally-ranked Clarkson, which was ranked seventh in the country, in a three-game series in Potsdam, N.Y. to advance to the semifinals of the ECAC Championships. On November 11, 2007, the President of Colgate, Rebecca S. Chopp, announced the creation of the Donald F. Vaughan Endowed Coaching Chair for Men’s Ice Hockey. During the 2005-06 campaign, Vaughan continued to lead Colgate to new heights. His Raiders captured their second ECAC Hockey regular-season title in three years, and won 20 games for the third straight season for the first time in program history. Four of Vaughan’s Raiders earned all-league recognition, including Mark Dekanich, who became the first player in school history to receive the Ken Dryden Award as the league’s goaltender of the year. Vaughan returned from a one-year hiatus to guide Colgate to 25 victories, the most in his tenure, during the 2004-05 campaign. Vaughan’s skaters advanced to the ECAC semifinals for the third time in his Colgate career. The Raiders earned a berth in the 2005 NCAA tournament, where they lost to Colorado College in a one-goal game in the Midwest Regional semifinals. Colgate finished the season ranked 14th in the national polls. That year, Vaughan earned his 200th career coaching victory with a 3-1 win against Union on Feb. 18, 2005. After a one-year absence from postseason competition, Colgate returned to the ECAC playoffs in 2002. That season, Vaughan reached two milestones: he registered his 150th career victory in a 4-1 win against Iona on Nov. 3, and posted his 100th career ECAC win versus Dartmouth on Jan. 11. For his accomplishments, Vaughan was recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association as a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, which is given annually to the University Division Coach of the Year. Vaughan first led Colgate to national prominence during the 1999-00 season. That year, he coached the Raiders to the NCAA East Regional and a final ranking of

Search for the Twitter handle @Colgate_Hockey and follow the Raiders today. COLGATE STAYS IN NATIONAL POLL Despite not playing this weekend, the Raiders were able to stay in the USCHO.com National Poll at No. 20 after dropping a spot from last week. ECAC Hockey is well-represented in the poll with six teams in the top 20. The Raiders are also earning votes in the USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine National Poll with 12 votes. They are on the second-longest winning streak in the country, behind UMass Lowell, who has seven wins in a row.
BOURDON CLOSE TO MILESTONE The senior forward currently has 91 points in 134 career games after tallying five points two weekends ago against Sacred Heart. He has scored 40 goals and has handed out 51 assists in his career. Bourdon will look to become the 51st player to reach 100 points in his career. FINISHING STRONG The Raiders have started slow out of the gate during the win streak as they have outscored opponents, 6-5, in the first period. However, the second and third have been a different story. Colgate has scored 25 goals in the final 40 minutes plus overtime. The Raiders have also done it on defense, allowing only seven goals during the same time period. They have especially distanced themselves in the second frame, outscoring foes, 14-3. FINDING THE NET During the win streak, Colgate has had no problem getting on the scoreboard as they are averaging 6.2 goals per game. The streak has catapulted the Raiders to third in the nation in scoring at 3.6 goals per contest, trailing only top-ranked Minnesota (3.82) and Nebraska-Omaha (3.67). Colgate also ranks sixth in the country in scoring margin, averaging one more goal than its opponent. POWER PLAY PUNCH The Colgate power play has come alive in the last five games with 10 goals on its last 23 chances for a 43.5 percent success rate. In two of the last five games, the Raiders have scored three power play goals after scoring three with the man advantage once in the previous 15 games. They jumped from eighth in the conference to third after the UMass series, when the Raiders went 5-for-7 with the extra skater. The Raiders are now 12th in the nation on the power play at 21.3 percent (19-for-89). IDENTICAL STREAKS FOR TWINS Tylor and Tyson Spink have been on fire during the win streak as both are riding six-game point streaks. Tyson has 10 points in the last six games, including a three-point night against UMass on Dec. 7. He also has three multi-point games as well and has three goals and seven assists in two games. Tylor has three multi-point games too and has a total of nine points on three goals and six assists. CHOUINARD RECEIVES 50TH SILVER PUCK At the annual banquet on Saturday, the Silver Puck Club and head coach Don Vaughan awarded Assistant Athletic Director for Medical Services Steve Chouinard with the 50th Silver Puck at the Hall of Presidents at Colgate. Chouinard has been working with the men’s hockey team in multiple capacities since arriving at Colgate 17 years ago. He does everything from equipment repair, skate sharpening and coordinating meals. MR. CLUTCH With the gamewinner on Dec. 1 to give Colgate the 5-4 win over Clarkson, Robbie Bourdon now has nine gamewinners in his threeplus years with the Raiders. His first two seasons he tallied three gamewinners, which led the team each year. Four of the nine winners have come in one-goal games and two have been in overtime. He ended two 5-4 wins this season, including the come-from-behind 5-4 win against No. 12 Dartmouth. Two years ago he ended the Rensselaer series with a laser in the second overtime to upset the higher-seeded Engineers.

AN ALL-ONTARIO ROOKIE CLASS The Raiders are welcoming eight new members to the squad this season. The rookies are all from Ontario and six of the eight are coming from the Central Canadian Hockey League, while two are products of the Ontario Junior Hockey League. Half of the newcomers played for the Cornwall Colts of the CCHL and made the league championship series. Kyle Baun, Mike Borkowski, Tylor and Tyson Spink will have an easier time adjusting on the ice as all four played together with the Colts. Darcy Murphy played two years with the Wellington Dukes of the CCHL and led the league with 52 goals in 48 games. Kevin Lough also played in the CCHL and had 95 points in his career as a defenseman for the Cumberland Grads. Ryan Johnston is another defenseman coming from the CCHL and he was the league’s defenseman of the Year for the Nepean Raiders and helped the Raiders to the title last year.

SCOUTING THE ENGINEERS Rensselaer sits at the bottom of the ECAC Hockey standings with a 1-6-3 mark for five points in its first 10 games of the league season. The Engineers were able to earn one point last weekend as they forced a 1-1 tie with No. 4 Quinnipiac on Friday night and then lost to Princeton by a 4-1 score. They have not won a game in the new year and have earned one win in their last six games. Overall, Rensselaer is 6-10-5 with big wins over Yale, Ferris State and St. Cloud State. Jacob Laliberte leads the team with 16 points on seven goals and nine assists. He is tied with Matt Neal and Nick Bailen for the team lead in assists with nine. Ryan Haggerty is tops on the team in goals with eight, while Laliberte and Milos Bubela are both second with seven scores. Laliberte and Bailen lead the squad with three power play goals. The Engineers have six players in double digits in points. They are currently averaging 2.48 goals per game. Bryce Merriam has started nine games in net and has a 2-5-2 record. He has played just under 600 minutes and has a .900 save percentage and a 2.80 goals against average. Both rookie Jason Kasdorf and sophomore Scott Diebold have played in seven games and each have six starts. Kasdorf has been the most successful with a 2-1-2 record, while Diebold is 2-4-1. SERIES HISTORY Rensselaer and Colgate will be playing for the 118th time on Friday night since 1915-16 and this series is the oldest in Raiders hockey history as it stretches 97 years. Colgate has played more games against Clarkson and Cornell, but those two series began in 1927. Colgate’s first ever game was against the Engineers in 1915-16 with the Raiders winning 6-1. It was the only game of the season. With Rensselaer’s win in the final weekend of the regular season in 2012, the Engineers lead the series, 57-56-3, however, since 2003-04 the Raiders hold a 19-7-1 advantage.
