THIS WEEK: HOME MATCHUPS AGAINST BROWN AND YALE

The Raiders will be back on the ice at Starr Rink this weekend with Ivy League foes Brown and Yale coming to Hamilton. The game against Brown on Friday night will be broadcast live on Time Warner Cable Sports in Central New York. The Bears and Bulldogs are the last two ECAC Hockey teams that the Raiders will not have played going into the weekend. Brown is coming off a split in its last two games. The Bears lost to Dartmouth by a 4-2 score on Friday night and rebounded to take down Harvard, 5-2, on Saturday night. Yale is one of the hottest teams in the nation as the Bulldogs are riding a five-game unbeaten streak which has got them to seventh in the nation. Yale has only one loss in its last nine games after sweeping both Harvard and Dartmouth last weekend by a combined score of 8-2.

NEXT TIME OUT: NORTH COUNTRY SWING

Colgate heads back out on the road next weekend to the North Country to face Clarkson and St. Lawrence. The Raiders play the Golden Knights on Friday night and then go across town to the Saints for Saturday. Clarkson is struggling over its last six games with no wins and an 0-5-1 record with the lone tie coming last weekend in a single game against St. Lawrence. The Saints are almost in the same position with two wins in their last nine games for a 2-6-1 record. The wins have come over RIT and Brown. Both teams will travel to Dartmouth and Harvard this weekend.

LAST TIME OUT: A PAIR OF TOUGH ONE-GOAL DEFEATS

Entering last weekend, Colgate was one of the top streaking teams in the country with five-straight wins and had averaged over six goals a game. The Raiders saw its streak come to end with a pair of one-goal losses to Rensselaer and Union. The power play was still clicking with both goals last weekend coming with the extra man. Spencer Finney played well in net with a career-high 32 saves against Union and had one goal against the Engineers come off a defenseman’s skate. He posted 26 saves in the loss at RPI TALE OF THE TAPE and competed save-for-save with Engineers’ rookie Jason GATE BROWN Kasdorf.

3-TIME ECAC HOCKEY REGULAR-SEASON CHAMPION • 4 NCAA TOURNAMENT APPEARANCES

HEAD COACH DON VAUGHAN 20th Season St. Lawrence ’84

Don Vaughan enters his 20th year as head coach at Colgate and has the most wins in program history. He enters this season with a career record of 313-311-71. Under Vaughan’s tutelage, Colgate has enjoyed four 20-win seasons, two NCAA tournament berths, and 18 appearances in the ECAC Hockey tournament. Additionally, he has guided the Raiders to seven ECAC semifinal clashes, including his last in the 2011-12 campaign. The 2000 ECAC Coach of the Year has mentored four Hobey Baker Award finalists, five All-Americans, two ECAC Players of the Year, an ECAC Goaltender of the Year, two ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District I honorees, three ECAC Merit Medal recipients, a Hockey Humanitarian Award winner and 42 All-ECAC Hockey selections. In addition to his commitment to success on the ice, Vaughan has continually demonstrated his commitment to the success of his student-athletes in the classroom. During his tenure, Vaughan has graduated 99 percent of his players. Since the creation of the award in 2000, Vaughan’s athletes have been named to the ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team over 50 times. Last season, the Raiders were ranked for most of the season and achieved its highest ranking since 1999-2000 after being ranked seventh in the USA Today/ USA Hockey Magazine National Poll in December. Under Vaughan’s tutelage, Austin Smith led the nation in goals with 36 and was named an All-American and the first Colgate player to be named a Hobey Hat Trick Finalist. He was the second ECAC Hockey Player of the Year under Vaughan and was a first team all-league selection. In 2010-11, Vaughan guided the Raiders to their fifth appearance in the ECAC Hockey semifinals. In the process, Colgate won back-to-back series against nationallyranked Rensselaer and Union. The previous season (2009-10), the Raiders finished in the top-4 in the league with a 12-8-2 mark and a 15-15-6 record overall. During his career in hockey, Vaughan probably never witnessed anything like how the 2008-09 season went down. Despite finishing 12-18-7, Vaughan’s Raiders posted a national record 19 overtime periods, shattering the former record of 16 set the previous season by Minnesota. Colgate finished the season with sevenconsecutive overtime games. In all, 25 of the 37 games were determined by one goal or fewer and one could make a case for 27

l since two games would have ended with a one goal difference if not for a late empty net score. Colgate’s highlights included a 1-0 road upset of then #19 Dartmouth on Valentine’s Day at Thompson Arena; a 3-2 overtime victory over #11 and ECAC champion Yale in the final regular season game on ESPNU and a pair of ties versus arch rival Cornell. Vaughan also watched junior David McIntyre post a break out season en route to garnering first team AHCA/Reebok All-American honors, as well as all-College Hockey News accolades. McIntyre, who went on to gain first team all-league mention, was one of 10 finalists for the prestigious Hobey Baker Memorial Award. In his 15th season, Vaughan guided the Raiders to an 18-18-6 record and a spot in the ECAC semifinals. On February 16, 2008, he became the school’s all-time winningest coach in the program as Colgate blanked Union 8-0. The Raiders enjoyed success during the campaign, among which included upsetting nationally-ranked Clarkson, which was ranked seventh in the country, in a three-game series in Potsdam, N.Y. to advance to the semifinals of the ECAC Championships. On November 11, 2007, the President of Colgate, Rebecca S. Chopp, announced the creation of the Donald F. Vaughan Endowed Coaching Chair for Men’s Ice Hockey. During the 2005-06 campaign, Vaughan continued to lead Colgate to new heights. His Raiders captured their second ECAC Hockey regular-season title in three years, and won 20 games for the third straight season for the first time in program history. Four of Vaughan’s Raiders earned all-league recognition, including Mark Dekanich, who became the first player in school history to receive the Ken Dryden Award as the league’s goaltender of the year. Vaughan returned from a one-year hiatus to guide Colgate to 25 victories, the most in his tenure, during the 2004-05 campaign. Vaughan’s skaters advanced to the ECAC semifinals for the third time in his Colgate career. The Raiders earned a berth in the 2005 NCAA tournament, where they lost to Colorado College in a one-goal game in the Midwest Regional semifinals. Colgate finished the season ranked 14th in the national polls. That year, Vaughan earned his 200th career coaching victory with a 3-1 win against Union on Feb. 18, 2005. After a one-year absence from postseason competition, Colgate returned to the ECAC playoffs in 2002. That season, Vaughan reached two milestones: he registered his 150th career victory in a 4-1 win against Iona on Nov. 3, and posted his 100th career ECAC win versus Dartmouth on Jan. 11. For his accomplishments, Vaughan was recognized by the American Hockey Coaches Association as a finalist for the Spencer Penrose Award, which is given annually to the University Division Coach of the Year. Vaughan first led Colgate to national prominence during the 1999-00 season. That year, he coached the Raiders to the NCAA East Regional and a final ranking of

He is on a three-game winning streak, which is one behind his season-high, which came in four of the first six games of the year. Price is one goal away from his career-high of six that came during his rookie year. POWER PLAY PUNCH The Colgate power play has come alive in the last seven games with 12 goals on its last 32 chances for a 37.5 percent success rate. The Raiders are now 13th in the nation on the power play at 21.4 percent (21-for-98). It also has been a major reason for the offensive success as of late with 13 of its last 35 goals coming on the power play and both from last weekend came with the extra skater. The power play unit could get a boost this weekeend as Clarkson is 54th in the nation in penalty killing and the Saints are 31st. IDENTICAL POINT PRODUCING FOR TWINS Tylor and Tyson Spink have been on fire and with points in eight of the last night games. Tyson has 11 points in the last six games, including a three-point night against UMass on Dec. 7. He also has three multi-point games as well and has three goals and seven assists in two games. The group has scored 13 of the 21 power play goals with four coming from Spiro Goulakos. Kyle Baun, Tyson Spink and Tylor Spink are second with three power play goals after scoring against UMass. Another rookie is leading the way on the second unit as Darcy Murphy has three power play goals.
