A Look at the RAPTORS Bard has had a difficult season, with their first eight games getting either postponed or cancelled. Once they started play, the Raptors struggled, dropping their first nine games of the season, before sweeping a doubleheader series against Elmira. In their past four games, Bard has gone 2-2, with wins over Southern Vermont and NYU, and two close losses to NYU as well. The Raptors are led at the plate by freshman second baseman and reigning Liberty League Rookie of the Week David Schlosser, who is hitting .427 on the season. Schlosser also has a team-high 38 hits. Sophomore first baseball Adam Carafotes is second on the team with 36 hits, and has a team-high .500 slugging percentage. In addition, Carafotes has recorded a team-leading nine doubles. At the mound, junior Alec Montecalvo has a team-high 3.58 ERA over 32.2 innings, going 2-4 on the season.

The Brewers round out their Liberty League schedule this weekend, taking on Bard College this afternoon for a pair of games before heading to Annandale-on-Hudson tomorrow at noon for two conference clashes. The Brewers are scheduled for six more games after today’s doubleheader, finishing the season next weekend at home for Senior Day Saturday against John Jay College and Sunday against CCNY for two. Vassar will look to up its record within the conference, as the Brewers try to finish in the top six in the Liberty League for the third consecutive season and eighth time since 2001. Also, the Brewers could still get to eight wins in Liberty League action, which would be only the fourth time ever since VC joined the conference back in 2001 that has happened. Despite VC being eliminated from the Liberty League Tournament, still much to play for over the next week’s action for the Brewers.

Brewer Bio on . . . Bobby Kinne Bobby Kinne, a freshman from Great Barrington, Massachusetts, has stepped right in and made an immediate impact for Vassar here in 2015. Kinne is one of many solid left-handed bats in the Vassar lineup, and his ability to use all fields at the plate makes him very hard to align against. Kinne also has shown some power all over the diamond this year, and defensively has sparkled at third base. Kinne has started all but one contest for the Brewers, leading the team with a .400 batting average. The freshman has a team-best 26 hits this season, and his on-base percentage of .443 is tops among Vassar batters. Kinne is currently ranked 10th in the Liberty League in hitting, while his current average would rank as the highest batting average for a freshman for a season at Vassar since Mike Perrone hit .434 back in 2010.
