Vassar will look to snap a four-game losing streak this afternoon, as the Brewers hosts Western Connecticut State University for a pair of non-conference tussles from Prentiss Field this afternoon. VC fell in its lone game Saturday afternoon, as Brewer alum Kristaps Aldins and his Stevens Institute of Technology squad came away with an 11-3 win over Vassar. Looking at the standings, Vassar still sits in fourth place in the Liberty League going into the final 12 huge conference contests starting next weekend. Junior Mike Koscielniak extended his hitting streak to seven games on Saturday, which is the longest streak for a Brewer hitter this season. Nick Johnson leads the squad with a .372 batting average among qualifiers, while Koscielniak is has gone 10-for-23 in his at bats this season, hitting .435. Cory Wuenschell is VC’s only other batter hitting over .300 this season, as he leads the squad with 17 RBI.
A Look at the COLONIALS Western Connecticut State comes to town this afternoon after playing a pair of contests at Southern Maine yesterday, splitting the Little East doubleheader with the Huskies 4-3 in the first game, falling 3-2 in the nightcap. Brewer Bio on . . . DAKOTA SAGNELLI Dakota Sagnelli, from Rumson, New Jersey, has become one of the top defensive catchers in all of the region. Run on Sagnelli at your own risk, as the senior backstop has a strong arm but his quick release is what makes him so difficult to steal bases against. Also, Sagnelli keeps runners on all bases in check, as he’s not one to shy away from trying to back-pick runners at either first or second base. So far this season, Sagnelli has gunned down 10 attempted base stealers while picking off a runner at first base as well against Skidmore. With the bat, Sagnelli is hitting .250 with 11 hits in 44 at-bats this season, doubling twice while driving in six runners. He has done a nice job at getting on base, posting a .393 on-base percentage. This season, the senior has a pair of multi-hit games, both wins for Vassar over Plattsburgh State and Clarkson University.
