A Look at the YELLOWJACKETS The Yellowjackets of Rochester look to extend their program-high 16-game winning streak this afternoon, playing as the home team for today’s twinbill. The Yellowjackets used a pair of three-run innings Saturday to help claim the doubleheader sweep of Vassar, scoring three runs in the second inning of both ends of the Saturday set. Sam Slutsky led the way for Rochester Saturday, as the leftfielder posted two hits in each game, including a double and a triple in the 6-0 game one victory yesterday. Brendan Garry posted his seventh homer of the season as well for UR, which raised its season batting average to .315 Saturday. Jake Meyerson comes into Sunday’s action sitting atop the batting average list for the Yellowjackets, as he currently sports a .473 batting average, tying with Nolan Schultz and Brian Munoz for the team lead in hits with 35. Rochester leads the Liberty League in long balls with 18, and also has a conference-leading 178 RBI.

The Brewers finish this weekend’s four-game set with the Yellowjackets of Rochester today, playing as the visiting team for the final two contests of this series. The Brewers will look to shake off two losses Saturday, though they did see two solid pitching performances, as Jonathan Hong and Johnny Mrlik each settled in after early inning troubles to both have strong outings. Nick Johnson had two multi-hit games Saturday, and freshman Bobby Kinne added three hits on the day, including a ringing double off the right field wall. Kinne comes into today with a team-best .407 average, tying for the teamlead in hits with Johnson with 24 apiece. Kinne and Johnson each have nine RBI, while Brooks English has totaled 18 hits, a team-leading 12 runs scored and only six strikeouts in 59 at-bats. Dan McCormack raised his average to .263 with two hits Saturday.

Brewer Bio on . . . Nick Johnson Johnson, an outfielder from San Francisco, California, has been one of the best players to wear the burgundy and gray over his past three seasons with the club. Johnson has a classic left-handed stroke, which translates to tons of doubles and extra-base hits for the 6-5 batter. Johnson also plays a fantastic right field, as he one of the best arms in the Liberty League from the outfield. Johnson comes into today’s doubleheader with Rochester hitting .375, tying for the team lead with 24 while his eight doubles are tied for fifth in the Liberty League. Johnson is second on the team with nine RBI, and also has scored eight times for VC. Nick, or “Jet” as he’s referred to by teammates, is second on the squad with six multi-hit performances, and has the team’s lone four-hit game this season against Southern Vermont.
