Area 1C November 21, 2013 Minutes Welcome and Call to Order The November 21, 2013 AYSO Area 1C meeting was called to order by Jane Mason Area Director, at 7:08pm. Minutes Approval October 24, 2013 meeting minutes, motion made by Arcadia (2) and seconded by Pasadena, (13) and unanimously carried as presented. Upper Division – Peter Peter reported it was the easiest season with only 4 games being rescheduled. Everyone did a great job including the referees, coordinator, etc. Playoff winners for the season GU16 Alhambra (60) GU19 El Monte (908) BU16 Boyle Heights (1304) BU19 Pasadena (13) The winning teams will go to Chino this weekend as well as BU19 Boyle Height (1304) wildcard team. Referee Report – Scott We had 678 referee slots in upper division aside from the 2nd weekend we only had 5 open slots. We had an average of 1 caution (yellow card) per game. R60 avg 10.3 cautions per team. Had 2 sendoffs during playoffs, with an average of 1 sendoff per 9 1/2 games. 5 regions are sending referee teams to Section play, with every ref team has at least two Nationals. Referee handout given to all regions, highlighting how many games covered, and by what referees for this Fall season. RRA meeting this month had 100% attendance from all regions. Referee lists for post seasoj play to be submitted by 12/16. This post season will be having mandatory meetings for all team referee Jan 6, 2014 – Section/Area All Star team Referees – South Pasadena Library Jan 9, 2014 – Regional All‐star referees, place TBD Jan 14, 2014 Make Up day for all – Region 13 Clubhouse. Play through tournament – Referee assignments will be the same as last year. Assessments – New Nationals are Leo Parker and Francisco Diaz, congratulations.
Instruction – Gary Whitaker will be leaving Area 1C, so will be looking for a new Referee Director of Instruction. Coach Report ‐ Mike Not a lot to report, had two coaches this fall seek cross certification. Mike will be putting together an Advanced Coach apprenticeship program for UD coaches. Will put out a proposal for the YDP season. Believe we will; will have a large amount of coaches looking for upgrades @ road show. Financial Report – Frank Registration fees‐ Fee is $2.75 per player to Area. Registration numbers were pulled October 30 as agreed upon. Some region have different numbers. Area has already paid fees to Section based on registration numbers in September. So RC’s need to make sure all player drops have been processed in eayso and refunds applied for from National. Then we will have correct Area fee numbers. Financial Statements attached. All‐Star / Post Season Report – Craig Play through – Had meeting with the regional post season coordinators, went well, not much new. Last year it seemed we did not have enough volunteers assigned to the different venues for team check in etc. RC’s need to make sure they have consistent volunteers at the various venues for team check in, referee check in etc. Each region will be responsible for a field. Draw has been done, some regions won’t be sending two teams, so wild cards were drawn for those regions who could field another team. Roster due to Area 12/9 All‐Stars – Need the smaller regions to let us know if they will not be sending a Section and Area teams. No teams will be allowed to play down unless approved. Will need rosters with the age requirements and explanation of why they want to play down by 12/12/13. 12/16 is a drop dead date for Team numbers, fields, and to have Referees to support the teams identified. Goal is to have schedule done by 1/2/14 Discussion held on “playing down” Vote was taken on playing down: Motion made ‐ Any team “playing down” is ineligible for playoffs Ken made above motion, seconded by Art Ponce, passed unanimously. YDP – Marco YDP post mortum meeting held, notes from the meeting to be typed up and sent out shortly. Upper Division play for YDP ‐ Sub‐committee was formed to discuss and look at short sided games, because the lack of teams in U16/U19 for YDP season. Referee side voted against it as it would not allow referees to get upgrades needed. Committee also felt, that smaller teams, would mean more coaches, field issues and would present referee issues too.
Was presented to the RC’s to have Varsity type teams (U19) teams, and your U16 players would just play up. Discussion held until Marco gets YDP meeting minute distributed with number of teams that played last season. Area Report: Jane Grad Series – Grad series is for U8 players moving up to U10 next fall. Grad series should remain non‐competitive and there should be no tournament play. Anne Louit in 214 will be holding Goal Keeper training on 1/6, at 1pm, all welcome. Regional Agendas – How many RC’s report back in their regional meetings what happens at the Area level. It is important for the RC’s to keep educating their boards that AYSO is bigger than just their region. So Section and Area feedback in the region meetings are important. Section Report: Jane Soccer Fest – May 2nd, will be the largest pick up game, participation is encouraged, so what can you organize in your region. NAGM – Overall agenda is being looked at to get everyone home for Memorial Day Monday. National Games – They still need volunteers, there is a National games website where you can sign up to help. Region Report ‐= Attached New Business – Area Christmas dinner will be Friday, December 6, at El Portal, Green Street in Pasadena. Meeting Adjourned
