COUNCIL ITEM SUMMARY Condensed Title: AN ORDINANCE OF BAL HARBOUR VILLAGE, FLORIDA; AMENDING THE CODE OF ORDINANCES BY AMENDING ARTICLE 11 "VILLAGE COUNCIL" OF CHAPTER 2 "ADMINISTRATION" TO ADJUST THE SALARIES OF THE MAYOR AND VILLAGE COUNCIL TO REMAIN COMMENSURATE WITH NEIGHBORING MUNICIPALITIES Issue: Should the Village Council approve an ordinance adjusting the salaries of the Mayor and Village Council? Item Summary/Recommendation: Section 15 of the Village Charter states "The annual salary of councilmen shall be one dollar ($1 .00) per annum until changed by ordinance, but shall not be increased during the current term of councilmen enacting such ordinance." On December 27, 1977, the Bal Harbour Village Council passed Ordinance 198 creating Section 2-5 of the Village Code and adjusting one dollar ($1 .00) Mayor and Council annual salaries to eighteen hundred dollars ($1,800) and twelve hundred dollars ($1,200) respectively. Councilman David Albaum presented a discussion item on the agenda of the June 20, 2017 Village Council Meeting regarding the adjustment of salaries. The Village Council, by general consensus, agreed that the issue was worth exploring asked the Village Attorney to draft a resolution, and for staff to research other municipalities .
