By Maxine Rosenthal and Joy Pelzmann Required Ruler: Clearview 60 degree triangle ruler Sewing Machine in good working order with a ¼” foot and a new needle (either an 80/12 microtex sharp or a 70/10 if you are working with batiks). Also bring 50 weight neutral cotton thread. Usual sewing supplies (pins, seam ripper, scissors for cutting thread) flower head pins, your regular rotary cutter, a long 24# ruler and a square ruler (from a 7 ½” to a 12 ½”) and if you have a small iron and pressing mat bring them. Fabric: Choose fabric that will feature colors you love. Select fabric with a minimal amount of background and a larger print. The larger the print, the less the finished block will look like the original fabric (which you want). Studying the book before you pick your fabric will be a big help. You will need 6 repeats at least 12 inches apart. The larger the repeat, the more blocks you can make, the larger the quilt. See page 9 of the book for more guidelines on fabric requirements. Second Class: You will need a large piece of flannel or a piece of batting the size you would like to make your quilt. This will be your design wall. At the end of the first class, we will discuss fabric for the cubes. Don’t buy this yet. Please do not hesitate to call me with any questions or concerns.
