This is a social event with no instruction. **NEW KNIT-A-LONG**—PONCHO PARTY WITH POLLY—Get away from the hustle and bustle during the hot summer nights in July and make an adorable “All Ruffled Up Poncho” with Polly. This is a perfect gift for that special friend, or a great cool evening addition to your wardrobe. Polly will guide you through this project each Thursday in July, beginning on the 10th. This lightweight moebius cowl is designed to be decorative, so it’s perfect for those beautiful lightweight summer cotton or ribbon yarns. In this class, you will learn the moebius cast-on, then get started with a simple pattern to complete this cute little summer cowl. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to long tail cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and consistently work to gauge. Teacher— Diane Jespersen Wednesday, July 30, 3-5pm, $20 GAUGE FOR KNITTERS—Don’t you hate that everyone tells you to do a gauge swatch before you start your project? It seems like such a waste of good knitting time. But, you want your project to fit perfectly. Come join Jean to learn how and why it’s so important to make a gauge swatch and be able to measure it accurately. Prerequisites: For any knitter who has successfully completed a beginning knitting class, can cast-on, knit, purl, bind-off, and read basic knitting instructions. The course will cover casting on, knit, purl, simple stitch patterns, increase, decrease, fixing simple mistakes and binding off. Our project will be a dishcloth out of cotton yarn. **NEW CLASS** URBAN LACE INFINITY SCARF -This is the perfect project to take your knitting to the next level. Make this beautiful circular scarf without knitting in the round. Learn a provisional cast-on, the Kitchener stitch (grafting), and a simple lace pattern including yarn overs and decreases. When complete, you’ll be ready for fall with the latest trend in scarves. Class includes one private lesson with Polly to finish. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, and read basic pattern instructions. Teacher: Polly Rodberg Saturday, Sept. 13 & 27, 10am-12noon, $35 ONE-SKEIN WONDERS CROCHET-A-LONG continues. We will be using the Crochet One-Skein Wonders book and focusing on smaller projects and new techniques. Each month we have chosen a project from the book that will feature a different weight yarn and different stitches. This class is perfect to advance or freshen up your crochet skills. Taught by Janet and Lori, you’ll enjoy the casual, friendly atmosphere to meet new friends and get some relatively quick projects done. Prerequisites: For the crocheter who has successfully completed a beginning crochet class and is ready to advance their skill level. Good for either a boy or a girl, you will learn to make this teddy and sew him together with Janet in two classes. It’s a perfect class to learn increases, decreases and to seam your knitting together! Teacher: Janet Gibson Friday, July 25 & Aug. 8, 5-7pm, $30 KNITTING WITH BEADS—In this class, we will learn to knit a beautiful cuff bracelet by Laura Nelkin. This project comes in a kit ready to knit—all you need to add are your knitting needles. We will learn to string beads and work them into your knitting and also how to add beads as you knit. These are the two methods used for knitting with beads and this great project uses both methods! Get the kit and sign up for the class and then you’ll be ready for ANY beaded project! **NEW CLASS** TURKISH BED SOCKS—This is a fun, one-skein project that is perfect for gifts. These bed socks are ideal for wearing around the house or with clogs. You will learn two different methods to make these lovely socks, one that involves sewing up two short seams and one that is seamless. You get to choose which method to use. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, decrease and bind off. You should be comfortable working with fingering weight/sock yarn. Great class for beginners and those needing a little refresher, perfect for the knitter who wants to learn crochet. It’s time to get rid of those fears and tackle a simple project that will teach you to master lace! You will receive a lace scarf/stole pattern at class. You will learn how to read a lace chart, use a life line, as well as lace stitches—a mix of increases and decreases. This pattern can be made with lace weight up to worsted weight yarn. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Saturday, July 19, 10am-12noon, $20 BULKY MOEBIUS COWL—Here’s a quick project that you can accomplish in an evening, using bulky yarn. The Bulky Moebius Cowl knits up in a flash and works wonders in the cold winter months! Knit a short cowl to wrap around your neck or double it to wrap around your neck and over your ears. The Moebius cast-on and knitting is pretty simple, once you get it started correctly. Join us for this one session wonder, and get started knitting up this colorful cowl for everyone. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Monday, Sept. 8, 6-8pm, $20 MAGIC LOOP TOE-UP SOCKS (2 AT A TIME)—This class will teach you how to make socks using the magic loop method from the toe up. Both socks are made at the same time. You will learn the Turkish cast-on for a seamless toe, a very simple short-row heel method, and Elizabeth Zimmermann’s Sewn bind off. After completing this course, you will be able to use these three skills for almost any sock design you desire. Do you want to create a fine garment but are afraid of the sewing? Here’s your chance to learn how to finish that sweater and show it off! Learn to sew various kinds of seams, Kitchener (grafting) stitch, mattress stitch and much more. Level: Advanced Beginner Prerequisites: Must be proficient at all aspects of knitting. Teacher— Diane Jespersen Wednesday, Sept. 17, 6-8pm, $20 HELIX HAT—Ready to try some easy color work? Here’s the perfect way to start. We’ll use a color technique called Helix to create a three-color hat. Helix creates a “candy-cane” type striping effect. We’ll learn this easy color process in one two-hour class. You can use this technique to create a stocking cap for an adult or a child. It’s quick, fun, and can be used to “whip up” some great gifts. Prerequisites: For the advanced beginner who knows how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and work to a consistent gauge. Prior experience with circular knitting a definite plus! Teacher: Diane Jespersen Wednesday, Sept. 24, 6-8pm, $20 IT’S ALL ABOUT THE YARN—Have you found the perfect pattern, but can’t find the yarn it calls for? Did you fall in love with some yarn, but don’t know what you can make with it? Did you make a hat that wouldn’t fit because your gauge was off? Here’s your chance to learn some of the answers to those questions and more. We’ll review yarn weights, fiber content, how to substitute yarns, gauge, yards vs. meters, reading yarn labels, testing dye lots, and much more. About Our Classes To sign up for a class, please pre-register to reserve your space. Payment must be received at time of registration. Classes have a minimum of 3 students and refunds are available up to one week before the first class session. In fairness to the teachers and other students who have purchased their supplies, we are unable to make refunds after that time. Supplies are needed for all classes and a supply list will be furnished when you register. The class fee covers instruction only, but there is a 10% discount on all supplies needed for the class. Materials for classes at Knitting Next Door must be purchased at Knitting Next Door so that we can remain in business to keep offering you more great classes! Due to student and teacher allergies, please refrain from wearing perfumes and scented lotions to class.
