Classes & Events KNIT & CROCHET NIGHTS Cost: No charge Date: Ongoing Thursdays Time: 5 pm – 7 pm All skill levels Come to knit or crochet & laugh with your knitting friends. This is a social event with no instruction. **NEW CLASS**CAIRN BEANIE & FINGERLESS MITTS — Stay cozy in this stylish beanie and fingerless mitt set worked in two colors. Jean will teach you the interesting textured stitch pattern that helps to keep you warm and is simply achieved with slip stitches. You’re only working with a single color per round, but no one will believe it when they see your finished set. You won’t want to miss learning this new technique. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, work to a consistent gauge, and read basic knitting instructions. Great class for beginners and those needing a little refresher, perfect for the knitter who wants to learn crochet. Teacher— Cindy Peters Wednesday, Apr. 17 & 24, 6-8pm, $30 Monday, May 6 & 13, 10am-12noon, $30 **NEW CLASS**CLOCKWORK SHAWL/SCARF— Clockwork is an enjoyable striped garter stitch shawl/scarf, perfect for featuring two beautiful colors of yarn. You will learn the necessary slipped stitch columns and the increases to create a unique arched shape shawl/scarf. Picking the colors will be the hardest part of this striking shawl/scarf. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, work to a consistent gauge, and read basic knitting instructions. Teacher—Jean Grapentine Monday, Apr. 8, 6-8pm, $20 Saturday, Apr. 20, 3-5pm, $20 KNIT BABY SOCKS—If you have a special baby in your life (or arriving soon), you’ll want to join Janet for this class. We’re making simple, precious baby socks using double-point needles and sportweight yarn. These little cuties will wow new parents. Pattern comes in two sizes. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast-on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, work to a consistent gauge, and read basic knitting instructions. **NEW CLASS**REVERSIBLE CABLED DISHCLOTH— Have you ever wanted a cabled scarf or hat that had pretty cables on both sides of knitted fabric? Here’s a class to explore reversible cables. We will make a dishcloth with both sides showing these lovely cables. Your friends will wonder why you are washing dishes with such a fancy dishcloth! This will inspire you to move on to a larger project. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who has experience with regular cables. Teacher: Mary Dick Tuesday, Apr. 9, 6-8pm, $20 Wednesday, May 8, 6-8pm, $20 BEGINNING KNITTING—This two-week series is for the absolute beginner and those who need a refresher. The course will cover casting on, knit, purl, simple stitch patterns, increase, decrease, fixing simple mistakes and binding off. Our project will be a dishcloth out of cotton yarn. Teacher: Janet Gibson Tuesday, Apr. 9 & 16, 11am-1pm, $30 Tuesday, May 21 & 28, 5-7pm, $30 **NEW CLASS**ENTRELAC SHRUG—Ready to be the envy of all your friends? Take Janet’s class and you’ll get the beginning instruction on how to create this stunning shrug. Everyone who sees you will want one! It starts with Entrelac and then stitches are knitted around the Entrelac to create the shrug. This class comes with additional assistance as you get to your next steps — come back in and Janet will help you as needed, without a dictated class time. Prerequisites: For the advanced knitter who knows how to caston, knit, purl, increase, decrease, work to a consistent gauge, and read knitting instructions. Experience with entrelac or have completed entrelac class a plus! This Cottage Creations classic is sized to fit everyone in the family. Size 2 Toddler to Extra Extra Large. ELIZABETH ZIMMERMAN’S BABY SURPRISE JACKET—Are you looking for a simple, yet satisfying project to make for a special baby? This design is pure genius, once you know the ins and outs of the pattern. You will learn the increases, decreases, buttonholes, and pick up stitches needed to successfully complete the project. This little gem is a hit at baby showers, and is very addictive-you’ll want to make one in every color! **KNIT-A-LONG****LOG CABIN BLANKET— Have you ever seen a log cabin quilt? Well, now you can knit one! Pick your five favorite colors and learn how to knit a beautiful log cabin blanket. This knit-a-long will teach you the techniques needed to complete the blanket, with the fun of knitting it with others. Go at your own pace in the knit-a-long. ZUZU’s PETALS —This lovely, feminine cowl by Carina Spencer is fun to knit, and flattering to wear! The construction is novel and interesting. This project is a nice introduction to lace-type work for knitters without lace experience, and a pleasant departure for folks who have knit lace patterns before. Your choice of yarn will give you a unique, gorgeous cowl, be it a classic solid or semi-solid, a jazzy self-stripe, or a luscious handpaint. Join us! **NEW CLASS**ISHBEL SHAWLETTE/SHAWL— Ysolda Teague has designed a lovely shawl/shawlette that is intriguing to knit and versatile to wear. Ishbel showcases fingering (sock) weight yarns to their best advantage Hand-dyed yarns are especially nice for this project! You are free to choose to knit either a shawlette size or a full size shawl. Either way, you’ll knit a lovely accessory that is a grand addition to your wardrobe, or that of a happy gift recipient. Prerequisites: This is a project for the intermediate knitter that knows how to cast on, knit, purl, increase, decrease, and read written patterns. TOP-DOWN SOCK USING MAGIC LOOP -- Ready to learn magic loop? Want to learn how to make socks, too? This class will cover the basic parts of a classic top-down sock with heel flap and gusset. As an added bonus, you will also learn how to knit using the magic loop method. Students will complete a classic, well-fitting sock using sock (fingering) weight yarn and a circular needle. Prerequisites: For the intermediate knitter who knows how to cast on, bind off, knit, purl, consistently work to gauge, and read basic pattern instructions. MAGIC LOOP TOE-UP SOCKS (2 AT A TIME)—This class will teach you how to make socks using the magic loop method from the toe up. Both socks are made at the same time. You will learn the Turkish cast-on for a seamless toe, a very simple short-row heel method, and Elizabeth Zimmerman’s Sewn bind off. After completing this course, you will be able to use these three skills for almost any sock design you desire. **NEW CLASS**QUILTED LATTICE ASCOT—Ready to try a new technique that will give your knitting a quilted look? Take this class with Diane and learn how to “strand” the yarn to give your finished work the vision that it has had some quilting added. We’ll get you well on your way with a good start to this ascot in one class. Prerequisites: For the advanced knitter who is proficient at knitting, and purling, and understanding patterns. Teacher: Diane Jespersen Tuesday, May 14, 3-5pm, $20 IT’S ALL ABOUT THE YARN—Have you found the perfect pattern, but can’t find the yarn it calls for? Did you fall in love with some yarn, but don’t know what you can make with it? Did you make a hat that wouldn’t fit because your gauge was off? Here’s your chance to learn some of the answers to those questions and more. We’ll review yarn weights, fiber content, how to substitute yarns, gauge, yards vs. meters, reading yarn labels, testing dye lots, and much more. About Our Classes To sign up for a class, please pre-register to reserve your space. Payment must be received at time of registration. Classes have a minimum of 3 students and refunds are available up to one week before the first class session. In fairness to the teachers and other students who have purchased their supplies, we are unable to make refunds after that time. Supplies are needed for all classes and a supply list will be furnished when you register. The class fee covers instruction only, but there is a 10% discount on all supplies needed for the class. Materials for classes at Knitting Next Door must be purchased at Knitting Next Door so that we can remain in business to keep offering you more great classes!
