Paeroa College “Excellence in Everything” College Comment Thursday 2nd July 2015 Kia Ora koutou, As the term draws to a close it is time to reflect on what has been a busy time and look forward to what will inevitably be another busy term. This week is a typical example of another busy week. We have had an Australian school visit, Barista training and on Thursday afternoon we have a curriculum sharing time with our Y9s, 10s and parents. Joss Hale and the junior team have worked incredibly hard to get this all set up and I’m delighted to see it looking so interesting. I’ve also had a look at some of the work that has been going on around the College in classroom lessons. In Technology the students are producing a number of items of particular high quality and Mr. Coe has been very impressed with some of the quality of the finishing from our woodwork students. I enjoy popping into Science occasionally – Mrs King always seems to be explaining something of interest to me and I’m always tempted to stop and ask her more! Equally, Mrs McLean’s senior English class are frequently debating items of opinion and interest and when I visit I have to make sure that I don’t interrupt. The snapshot I’ve described above, a happy, high functioning learning environment is exactly what we want to have at the College – a community of learning. Our teachers work incredibly hard to provide an engaging and interesting environment and sometimes the pressure to be successful with qualifications can mask what we really hope to provide – some of those moments of joy in learning! I wish everyone a restful and enjoyable break and hope that you have a safe holiday. The formal is approaching fast on the 18th July and I know that the Y13s will be glad when that is completed as they have been working incredibly hard. I’ll look forward to writing about it in my next communication. Nga mihi nui, Doug Black

Year 10 Camp A reminder that the Year 10 students will be having a camp at the end of the year in November to the Narrows and the approximate cost of this camp will be around $270.00. The school subsidizes this camp to the tune of $50.00 per student. We like to encourage all Year 10 students to participate in this camp. Any queries contact Mrs Hooper. Heathmont School Sports Visit

Yesterday we had a visit from Heathmont School in Australia where we played them in Basketball, Volleyball, and Netball. We won the Netball, Volleyball and boys’ Basketball and we lost the girls’ Basketball. Well done to all involved and also to Larn Wilkinson and the MPA class on their Haka.
