Historical Commission Board Meeting Minutes October 6, 2016 Present: Bill Segars, Chairman; Sarah Smith, Patty Holley, Loris Flowers, Suzanne Calcutt, Jane DuBose, and Carolyn Govan. Guest: Charles Govan, Doris Gandy, Kay Williamson, Nannie Diggs, Gail Gandy. Call to Order: Bill called the meeting to order, welcomed all Board Members and guest, especially Kay and her retirement. Marker Program: Round O marker has been delivered, but no installation date has been set. The Wilson Crossroads marker fell and will be reinstalled. There is a possibility of adding Twitty United Methodist Church of Hartsville to the list. If anybody wants to sponsor a marker and can donate part of the cost, there is a possibility of getting the marker up sooner than its date on the list. Interns: Two are working now, Madison Mack & Chase Johnson. Collections: The Mary Demetrious Collection is still in progress. “The Year of Conservation” has been placed on hold while Brian works on all of the ODDC materials. The Board had given Brian permission to discard any materials not pertaining to Darlington County. This work is finished. The cleaning of our “Lady of Mystery” is going well. Other News:
The Moses Sanders Bacot gravestone has been installed at Lowther’s Hill Cemetery.
“Treasures in The Attic” was held on Saturday, September 24, 2016. This was a concerted effort, focusing on African Americans into the Commission to have their materials scanned and hopefully get more materials for the Commission. The Historical Commission’s new brochure still waiting on the map. Visitors: 196 Bill has a new book signing on October 13th from 5:00 pm—7:00 pm at Burry Book Store in Hartsville. The Darlington County Historical Society meeting is October 20th, 6:00 pm—8:00 pm at Mr. B’s, Dr. Kevin Fogle will speak on Weatherspoon Island. Brian had 20 meetings in the community. The bus tour with the Florence group was a success. Jacob Kelley Open House was a success. Their Christmas Open House will be the first Sunday in

[email protected] December. The Hart Cottage and Thomas Hart House will also be open that day. The DCHC has loaned several duplicate family name books to the “new” Lee County Genealogical Research Library. There may be some interest in more interaction between the Commission and the Darlington County Library, possible displays. The next meeting will be November 3rd, 2016 at the Commission.
