Historical Commission Board Meeting Minutes May 5, 2016 Present: Bill Segars, Chairman, Sarah Smith, Loris Flowers, Kevin Brown, Suzanne Calcutt, Jane DuBose, and Brian Gandy. The meeting was held at the Historical Commission building. Bill called meeting to order. Minutes from the April 7, 2016 meeting were read and approved. Marker Program: Darlington Manufacturing Company marker will be placed on the street. The West End group has agreed to the wording. Round O marker wording is being sent to Sewah Studios. Brian is still collecting material for the Lumber marker. Other: The two Interns are ending their work at the Historical Commission soon. Brian has spoken to Mayo School to get four interns next school year. Two of the interns will scan photos; other two will work with the equity records in January. “Top 50 Things To Do in Darlington County” booklet has been published and sample booklets have been received from Mr. Arrington, County Administrator, and will be given to Brian. Major Projects: St. David’s Masonic Lodge has stopped with their records. Brian is receiving more information from Trinity Methodist Church, Darlington. All archival materials bought with Steve and Anita Nail’s donation have been received. Commission’s new brochure is still in the hands of Planning. Moses Bacote gravestone has been reordered. Research still being done on the quilt donated by Mrs. Annette Ward. The Guild organization is hoping to get group training session for a few people. They will be discussing this. Donations: Doug Lee donated three photos and a weaving room time book from the old Cotton Mill. Eileen Segars donated four photos from the First Pentecostal Holiness Church and one photo of her mother’s 1930’s traveling softball team. A verbal commitment has been made for Mary Demetrious’s historical collection. Visitors: 102 Upcoming Project: “A Year of Conservation” Historical Commission will begin scanning documents starting with photograph collection. Everything will be cataloged and conserved to protect the records. Hopefully this project will draw many more people to visit the archives. Adjournment: Bill Segars adjourned this meeting.
